The Wizard?
I haven't seen this movie since I was 10 years old. I think it was called "The Wizard" or something very similiar. It was about a kid who was a video game god who went to this game tournament. The movie also showed Mario 3 before it was even released for the NES. Is this movie on DVD or is it going to be put on DVD anytime?

As silly of a movie as it is, I always loved it, me and my friends are all in college now and we still quote it all the time, we actually made a short spoof of it, pretty funny. But anyways as far as the DVD, I'm pretty sure the only one that exists is in German, and unfortunately I have never heard of any new plans to bring it to the US.

I remember seeing the movie for a birthday party when I was 8 or 9. I would love a release of the movie, but I fear it would probably be full-screen like the Savage starring movie Little Monsters.

I have the Region 2 PAL German DVD of Joystick Heroes (Germany's name for The Wizard) Unfortunatly it's fullscreen and only in German. There's no English whatsoever, except the credits. I started work a long time ago to sync it up with English audio from the US VHS. It was a very time consuming project, because of the PAL speedup. I was even going to make special menus where you can go to scenes featuring a specific game. One of these days I'll eventually get back to working on it and I may pass out copies or something.

That movie sold a lot of Nintendo games back in the day. I remember it was the only movie made at the time that had something to do with real video games and every 10 year old kid drooled over it. I know I did.

It's amazing what goofy movies people hold near and dear to their hearts, isn't it?

I'd buy this in a second. I still have the mini Nintendo Power issue I got at the theater.
It made me get a Power Glove ($55!) but I couldn't figure it out, so I traded it for Double Dragon 2. I never did get Super Mario 3 until like 5 years ago though...
It's been on TV fairly recently I think, well, maybe a year ago...
I bought the tape from a video store that went out of business...
This is where I first heard the song, "Send Me an Angel"... great song.
The girl in the video is Jenny Lewis. Cute redhead. Got a couple of her TV appearances on tape somewhere, I think one is from Just the Ten of Us.
She was also in the 'I don't want to grow up' commercials from Toys R Us.
Anyways, here is a site petitioning a DVD release...

According to IMDB, there was a laserdisc made of it. It says it's in 1.33:1 Unmatted format, whether that's widescreen or pan&scan, it's probably as close to digital as you're gonna get. You can probably get all 'Star Wars' (non special edition) on this, find someone with the Laserdisc and record it to a DVD-R. Something I've been looking out for for a while already with no luck... more than likely you'll find it at a flea market with:
a. a messed up cover
b. scratched to high hell
or c. laser rotted.
But if you do come across it in great shape, grab it as quick as you can. I'll sign that petition for a release. But it's gotta be 2.35:1 widescreen, 5.1 DTS, with commentaries and a where are they now featurette... lol... j/k

Here's a couple more sites...
Wizard on an 80's site. lots of info, bloopers
X Entertainment's take, 5 short video clips
Same petition as before, but with a pic of the German release
Breakdown of the movie with real and implied dialogue. FUNNY!
I could post bunches... wizard nintendo movie pops up 237,000 matches on Google. I only went through the first 3 pages of links.
