Update: I Decided on a 52 Inch Toshiba DLP HD-Ready TV

Hi everyone,

I ended up getting the 52HM84 Toshiba DLP HDTV with the Best Buy 4 year insurance plan.

Why?

The Samsung 63 looked too dim and they only had the 63 series. I even asked about the 74 and no go. I stood there for two hours watching, comparing, etc. The Toshiba has the HD2+ chip, the picture is sweet.

A great member here named Kayak99 sent me a 10% off coupon and the TV was priced at $2198.79. Apparently is was a mis-price because Best Buy's computer showed $2499.00. They gave me the $2198.79 and applied Kayak99's 10% coupon on top of it. The TV ended up being $1979.09. A great deal. On top of that I was able to get the free DVD player and three DVDs. I was very satisfied with the transaction. Kudos to Best Buy in this case.

Major THANKS! to Kayak99, you rock! You saved me over $200, thanks a lot!

Tim :-)

Samsung makes some very good DLPs. My only thing is that I prefer the P4674W model. It looks better to me, but just my opinion. Check this thread out.

Thanks. I appreciate that. The only thing is that Best Buy does not carry that model and I am using Best Buy gift cards to purchase the tv.

Are you sure? I saw that they had the 4674 in the ad two weeks ago (in the magnolia area of the ad) I know their website doesn't show it, but I think they carry it.

It's the set I'm buying...

A 46' screen? Wow. Are you planning on opening a drive-in theater?

I updated the post above. I just came back from Best Buy and bought the Toshiba 52" 52HM84 instead.

Thanks for all of your help!

Nice! That was the reason I said to look for the 74 series, since it had the HD2+ chip. It just looks a lot better. I forgot that best buy carried the toshiba. Congrats and enjoy.

I've got a Samsung 46 inch 63 series ordered from Circuit City (being delivered Friday). Looking forward to my first WS DLP tv & took out the cityadvantage 4 year program to cover any problems with bulbs + the power surge protection. It looked great on display there and I hope I made a good choice.
