Relying on wits and willpower, Hawk tries to rebuild his life by capturing the first-place prize money - and the love of the son (David Mendenhall) he abandoned years earlier into the keeping of his rich, ruthless father-in-law (Robert Loggia). He matches muscles with some of the game's gargantuan greats - and grips you tightly with a rousing finale in crowd-pleasing Rocky style. Grab hold for rip-roaring fun!

I am stunned by the level of support for this movie.
Not only would I say it is one of Stallone's worst, it is just a bad movie period. Never in a million years would I ever consider a purchase. It's not even in the "so bad it's funny" category.
Stallone's star was on the wane when he made this, and it shows - it was also one of schlockmeister Cannon films efforts, and we know how much dross they turned out (I used to work for them, I know of what I speak). Menachem Golan is right up there with Michael Winner as one of those arrogant, unstylish, workmanlike and quite frankly talentless directors.
No sale for me. Not threadcrapping, just trying to give a balanced view her, that's all.

It's a cult classic my friend. Some people I imagine, most of us, watched this in our younger years and had a thing for it, and it's finally getting a DVD release, so we're happy to see it.

I have heard it describd as many things, but never a cult classic.
However, each to their own.
But I would be wary of picking up movies that you have not seen since your youth, they may not hold the same appeal they once did. We were different people back then and your tastes change (and so they should, by god).
