How is Romero's "The Crazies"?
Thinking of blind buying it, found some good reviews, but wanted "viewers like me" opinions...
How is the movie, the DVD quality, the extras, basically the whole kit and kaboodle?
Also, how is the sound on this release? I am wondering if the UK PAL DTS version is the way to go...

I've got the R1 version. It's a lot of fun, very good vintage Romero. It was a blind buy for me as well. Sound was fine, for a independent film from the early '70s (mono). I don't know that DTS would make much difference.
It definitely has a lot to say about the then-current Vietnam war.

It's been a while since I've watched this, but I don't remember being disappointed with anything. The pic/sound quality was decent, and it has a good commentary track with Romero.
The movie itself is excellent -- very underrated in my opinion. If you like any of Romero's other work from this time period, you'll probably like this.
I agree with gorgo99. This is a low-budget, early 1970s mono soundtrack. I can't imagine that DTS is really necessary here... and if they did some sort of 'fake' 5.1/6.1 on it, it'll probably sound like crap.

I didn't dig it as much as I had hoped... But, it's alright. A little cheesy and dated, IMHO, which is to be expected. Thought the most interesting aspect of it was the "pre-Dawn" touches... You can definitely see where the roots for DOTD were planted in this film. No problems with the quailty, IIRC. Not much in the replay department for this viewer, but you should watch it once, being a Romero fan and all.
