XBOX - Winning Eleven 8 v Fifa 2005

Hi,

I was going to get Fifa2005 but noticed that Winning Eleven 8 by Konami was just released on XBOX.

Noticed that Winning Eleven 8 does not have official English teams but Fifa does. Anyone have Winning Eleven? I have played Fifa soccer for 2000 through 2004 so how is W11 better?

Any opinions on either would appreciated. Got to get a soccer game for the xbox this week.

Thanks.

JJ

The Winning 11 series has always killed Fifa in gameplay. It just doesn't sell as well since it doesn't have the Fifa license for teams and players and it's marketed as heavily.

A friend of mine just picked up winning eleven 8. It has all official teams, expect the teams from Englad. I haven't played either one myself, but he said W11 is amazing. It's not on-line for XBOX though.

Get Winning Eleven 8!

FIFA 2005 Sucks!

FIFA 2004 was way better than 2005. I know that for many of us LIVE is a must but not in this case. I wouldn't buy 2005 for $5 bucks seriously. I don't care that winning eleven doesn't have LIVE but at least you won't be dissapointed. If you don't believe me than go ahead and get FIFA 2005.

FIFA 2005 is the first soccer game I've owned (and thus really played) since FIFA '98 on the Playstation. I've been surprisingly addicted to it, but having played just the demo of PS2 WE7 a few times, I can easily tell the quality of Konami's series is far higher.

If they had come out at the same time, the only selling point FIFA would have had was online play.

WE 8 is the best of all soccer game & alot replay value. After 6-9 months later WE 8 getting rare then 1-2 years later you'll see how this game price JUMP.

FIFA is average soccer game but no replay value. After 6-9 months you can find it every where around $20 or little cheap $5-$10 for PReOwned.

Also, Ebgames.com have FIFA 2005 (XBOX/GC) $29.99. Just add the item to the cart then it show up $29.99 instead $49.99.

Support Winning 11, in case EA decides to try to negotiate exclusive rights to all soccer teams and players in the future.

I was disappointed in both soccer games this year. I guess they were ok if you are a BIG soccer fan. Lately, they are too involved though....lots of cumbersome menus, lots of button combinations to do different moves.

The original FIFA on genesis was GREAT though

Hi All,

Thanks for the info on W11. I think I'll get that one to start with.
I did not renew the xbox live last month so not having live play will not hurt for now!!

Thank Jtnguyen12 for the price though from ebgames on Fifa. I may trade in a bunch of games but will probably go for W11.

The only letdown in WE8 is that it is not displayed in 16x9 widescreen. Quite unforgivable. The widescreen format would've been great for soccer games that need a larger viewing area.

Just got back from ebgames and traded in four xbox games for W11.

They had a deal for every two PS2/GB or XBOX games traded get $5 extra per game.

So got the game for free - less the money I spent on the original four!

also, doesn't WE8 NOT support xbox live in the US? i thought i read that and that killed it for me even though i like WE better in general.

knowing that it doesn't do 16x9 is a double killer.

I'll take solid gameplay over fancy graphics and LIVE anyday, and I'm a hi-fi nut.

Ditto.
WE8 is the most "realistic" sports game out there!
Great game!

I've been buying the Winning Eleven series since it started coming out in the US with WE6. Great, great game. There's so much you can do. A lot of freedom, and much more realistic than Fifa (although I haven't played Fifa since '03.. Fifa had better graphics, but I got WE6 afterwards and couldn't stop playing it).

solid gameplay is not in dispute. is WE8 better than WE7? i guess. although, i think it is an incremental improvement at best.

if i'm going to switch to the xbox version, it needs Live and 16x9 support. if it's going to go headon vs Fifa, it had better be much much better considering it already suffers from lack of team license support.

also, after a while, beating the console isn't as rewarding. i enjoy being in a "league" against other players.

16x9 is not about fancy graphics. it is about "minimum requirements" for a contemporary game. no 16x9 support means lazy development, imo. especially from a big developer like Konami.

--
what gets me is that Live is implemented in the euro version of the game. why was it "removed" in the US version?

and i don't want to hear speculation about that. i'd like to see a link to Konami's official position on this if it's available.

Oh, that's why it looked cut-off on my 16:9 TV. I did not enjoy either game though, as I said earlier

The lack of 16x9 really is a huge dissapointment.

There's simply no excuse for that.
