To enter, you just play one of the games and post a screenshot (http://www.imageshack.us) (F12 key in MAME) with your score.
The deadline to post your high scores will be Sunday 9:00 PM Eastern US time.
When you post a high score, pick a new game to play by the deadline. The sooner the better.
The game should be at least 10 years old and one we haven't played before.
Any scores you submit should be played during the week of the contest using no continues or any features of the emulator that you wouldn't get by playing the actual machine.
So far we have only been using MAME (http://www.mame.net/downports.html) to play the games, but that can change, if the winner so chooses.

You don't have to post an in game screenshot, since Rampart doesn't tally your score until the end. Just the final score is fine, but it'd be nice to see how badly you lost the battle. :)

What is Rampart? I can't get it to load on my mac... but from the looks of things.. it seems like a early version of some Warcraft type of game?

You get a small amount of time to build a fort around your castle with tetris pieces
Then you get another small amount of time to place cannons within your fort
Then the battle begins where you fire your cannons on the enemy ships
After everyone is done firing you have to rebuild your fort before the time is up, then you get more cannons and more enemies show up for the next battle.
So far all the games I played ended because I didn't complete my fort in time.

No, I DL the rom into the ROMs folder, but when I open MacMAME, it can't find the rom (yes, it's still zipped). Happens a lot if it's a game based on another emulated game and I don't have the original game.

macmame must not handle merged roms correctly then. I always put all the original's roms into the clone zip file so it should run if you don't have the other set.
I uploaded the original set to the website. (http://dvdtalk.home.comcast.net) It's labelled Rampart (Trackball). If Rampart doesn't load for anyone else, put that copy in your roms folder and try loading the joystick version again.

Here's some tips -
Only shoot at the brown boats carrying those grunts. Eventually you will kill them all and then shoot the other boats.
One good strategy is to surround a castle with four cannons at one end of the screen. Let the grunts surround that castle, and alternate protecting the other castles.
If you can, build one big fort around two castles and you'll receive more cannons on that turn.

Is there someway to set up the mouse to be used for the trackball version of Rampart? I think that might make a reasonable score possible... you know like 1/5th a D300 score.

Don't try to build those huge forts with thick walls, (even though my screenshot shows one, because I was trying to kill those grunts by building the fort around them). It's easier to build smaller forts with thin walls to hold 3 or less cannons around all of the castles. If I have time, I try and build a fort away from the castles to put in extra cannons.

I'm just trying to build walls before the damn_time runs out.. no time to get cutesy with the tetris figures and making them fit correctly. I just drop 'um where I can to close the holes.
I've just been trying to expand on one big fort to surround the closest castles.

Your scores are improving too fast, no more tips for you :). The game can be finished with continues, but it only allows 4 or 5 continues. The last screen is an island and it's tough to beat. I had to kill my own fort every time so that red ship doesn't leave all those craters. Then it was possible to build a fort.
