I've seen it and I would say its a must-see if you're into documentaries.
Riefenstahl is quite innovative and the commentary is quite good. Now if only someone would get around to releasing "Olympia"...

I recommend also checking out The Wonderful, Horrible Life of Leni Riefenstahl - creepy stuff.
If you're region-free, it's doubled up with her silent, mountain-climbing epic The Holy Mountain from Eureka UK. Worth a look if you dig silent films.

£14.99 ( that's £8.00 off & a great deal as a 2fer ).
Comes out to about $32 US & you would pay over $40 US for both as R1's.
Of course, this is prodviding that you have an all-region player

If you are at all interested in the historical context in which this documentary was made, I consider it a must have. In spite of Leni's notorious past, it is a compelling documentary indeed.

I have the Synapse Films release. It's fun to watch the awards ceremony at the end of "Star Wars" and see its influence on George Lucas.
Bottom Line: Revolting subject matter. Brilliant filmmaking.

No one here who is encouraging you to watch the film does so out of any support for Nazism. The film is an important historical artifact and should be viewed in that context alone.
I recommend also watching "The Wonderful, Horrible Life of Leni Reifenstahl" beforehand to put the movie in its proper context.

Davisdvd.com is reporting that this controversial film is going to be re-released on March 28th with a new remastered transfer. Here is the link:
http://www.davisdvd.com/news/news.html
From the looks of it, it seems to be the exact same DVD as the previous 2001 version. My question is, will this new version have a better, newer transfer than the previous version?

I've been meaning to pick this up. Important film and I personally think Riefenstahl is a hero for making it. This film is a vital piece of evidence to show the dangers of facism and Nazism. Besides, in 1933, the true nature of the Nazis were not in full view yet.

I don't see much value in double dipping for a nearly 70 year old Nazi propaganda film. The current Synapse release is pretty good IMHO and so many other titles are begging for my dollars as usual. For instance, where is Olympia? I would definitely purchase that documentary, as would others on this board, if they ever decide to release it. Anybody know who owns the rights to Olympia?

Olympia has been available for quite some time now in an excellent package in Germany!!
Furthermore, together with Triumph of the Will these films are not just propaganda as some on this board like to think. The historic value and more importantly the insider look they provide at the German state (much more than a simple Nazi look) are priceless. If interested in European history, not just German history, these films are essential for your collection.

Pro-B, thanks for your input. This movie, along with Triumph of the Will, are like bookends into a fascinating time period in European history as you state. Those images from the German release make me want to go region free!

I also reccomend this movie. If you are into WWII, it's a must have. Also, if you do pick this up, make sure that you give the audio commentary a listen. It's by historian Dr. Anthony R. Santoro, and it's quite informative.

Also, I would imagine the German government would censor much of it.

Also, I want to take a moment to announce a new version of TRIUMPH OF THE WILL that we will be releasing March 28th. The disc will be an all-new re-mastered version that is much "cleaner" than our previous release. Using newer technology (remember, our first release was many years ago) we were able to remove a lot more of the dirt, scratches and abnormalities from the original 35mm fine grain negative. The newer version looks better and will have much better compression, menus, etc. The commentary from the last release will be ported over and the liner notes will be updated
And by all accounts Day Of Freedom will be included as well as per original release.
