This is GREAT news!!
While sure it won't be in 99% of the major chain stores like Blockbuster,Wal-Mart and other stores that foolishly refuse to stock NC-17(but occasionally carry unrated versions,of films which would be NC-17 if rated, make sense?).
But online, indie(rental & B&M) retailers and Best Buy will definitely have the NC-17 version. So I think, everyone who likes the film should support the NC-17 release and make it sell as best as possible. It is nice to see 'some' support for NC-17 coming around lately, but it still has along way too go.

Hmm, so they actually resubmitted it to the ratings board to get an NC-17 instead of just releasing it "unrated", hoping that it would sell better?
It's pretty strange what Universal puts their efforts into.

Indeed, this is good news, especially given the rather shocking thread announcement from a few days ago.
Can anyone offer any definitive logic why Universal decided on this direction?

Ok, so, if I'm to understand: The producers take the "directors cut Chucky" back to the MPAA for a rating grade on the DVD release knowing they'd slap the terrifying NC-17 on it simply to infiltrate a specific demo market?
hmm....it could work....
