Any opinions on this receiver? Its for $350 at J&R.

Also, it has pass-through...what is this used for? Audio Switching?

As much as I like Onkyo products (receivers), I would have to recommend the Pioneer 1014 for under $400 hands-down over this one. The auto speaker setup alone is a huge "must-have" feature! (Yes, I'm loooking at getting one of these myself even tho I'm happy with my Yamaha.)

I've found that scanning through manuals is a great way to learn whether a unit's actual features really work the way I think they should, and whether the unit will meet my needs.

I downloaded this one when J&R was doing stealth $299 specials on this unit over the holidays. I was sorely tempted, but ultimately decided to wait until I was ready to upgrade my TV so I could choose the TV and receiver together to make sure I'd be able to configure the switching exactly as needed. And maybe DVI/HDMI-enabled receivers will be more affordable by then.

I have the Onkyo TX-SR600 and it has worked great for me for a few years now. The only problem I've had is running out of inputs.

I'm not going to upgrade until DVI/HDMI switching is more affordable in receivers. Right now the only one out there is ~$5k.

Onkyo is well liked by most and well reviewed.

I love my H/K and would also recommend it as well.

Personally, I have never been a Pioneer fan. But will have to admit the Pioneer mentioned has been getting a lot of good press and has a huge following.

I'm going to have to get a receiver for my media room and will likely get an H/K as I have been so please with the one I got for my family room.

What "pass-through"? I saw nothing about this onthe J&R product page.

ALso, do not underestimate the value of the auto speaker setup on the Pioneer. I bet that all decent receivers (and some others) will have this feature in a few years. Critical for getting a uniform soundstage.

I got the 602B for $300 shipped from J&R, but decided to sell it. For one, whenever you do anything that brings up the OSD(change volume, etc), the picture gets a little blurry. I had an older onkyo and to me it just wasn't worth the upgrade. Also the remote is pretty mediocre.
