Everyone knows that Columbia drops the Widescreen side from their dual sided discs when they go to budget price right? Well, I think I just found an exception.

Looking through the Walmart $5 bin tonight I found a copy of "The Forsaken"(I know its a bad movie but it was cheap and I wanted something new to watch). Well, I noticed that the back cover looked a little different when I looked at it. It wasn't till I got home and opened it up that I noticed it was a single sided Widescreen only disc with artwork. I noticed that most people on ebay were selling dual sided WS/FS discs. Could Columbia be making some changes here and getting rid of the FS side? I'll take some pics of it later.

Hmm. I actually like and own this movie along with both John Carpenter's Vampires movies. (They are similiar). Anyway, yeah my copy is two sided wide and full screen. Maybe they are separting the wide and full versions to make potentially double the money. What does the art on the disc look like? Same as the cover? Mine has an insert, does yours? I forget which features are on which side, but I bet some are missing. Here's what I have:

Commentary
two making of featurettes
deleted scenes
theatrical trailers
filmographies
and of course the all-powerful interactive menus and scene selections

Maybe they just determined that the widescreen version would sell more copies than the fullscreen version for this movie, so they chose to remove the fullscreen option this time. If they want to make more money, I think that they should re-release the movie in one format or both formats, with new cover art, and a banner specifying whether it is widescreen or fullscreen. And they could add some new extras too. And they could do all this for very little cost, since they already have the transfers of both formats ready.

I recently picked up a copy of the Replacement Killers from the Walmart $5.50 bin. This is a Columbia Tri-Star title and was labeled as having both WS/FS on the box. I took a chance on it thinking I would open it in the parking lot and return it if it was two-sided. The disk did include both versions so I was happy.
