Audio Component hookup question

Hello,

I have a slightly older Sony receiver (STR-DE545). The "TV" digital audio input has both optical and coaxial jacks. Does anyone know how the receiver will handle hooking two different components (i.e. PS2 optical and DVD player coaxial) into the inputs? Is it possible that the receiver will just decode and play whichever of the 2 signals it is receiving. Will there be any quality loss? Thanks. Please let me know if the question is unclear.

I don't know that particular receiver, but every digital receiver I've seen has a setup menu that lets you assign each digital audio input to a specific item on the input selector. So the optical input can be assigned to "CD" and the coax to "DVD," etc.

When in doubt, RTFM. I used to have a Sony DE-line receiver and I know the subject was covered in the manual.

If you no longer have your manual, go to the Sony Web site and download the one for your receiver.
