Sticky stuff on a DVD (artwork side): What is the best way to clean it?

I just bought some DVDs at a MG, and all of them had those MG stickers on the DVDs. I removed all of them, and on three of the DVDs the sticker left behind a sticky coating. It's basicly impossible to play the DVDs in the DVD player, because it might damage one or the other.

What is the best way to remove this crap? I tried Goo-Gone once, but as I started using it, it took a bit of the artwork with the sticky stuff. Would boiling it help remove it, just as that method helps with scratches, etc...? Thanks a lot guys!

You can try using a penetrating oil like WD-40 or 3-in-1 oil. These take a little more work, but are not as strong as goo gone. Good luck.

Thanks, I'll try that.

Anyone else got a method to share?

Yikes! Please don't do that. Extreme tempretures severely wreck a DVD.

Try using scotch tape (or even better the MG sticker) by pressing it over the adhesive, then lifting it off. That's worked on them for me. I go back over the label once I remove the MG sticker to take off anything left behind.

Yes, yes it does.

It takes 2-3 times to totally fix the problem sometimes, depending on the damage on the disc.

Very true. Except that 212 deg F is not extreme to a DVD. Boiling isn't necessary, IMO. I've done just fine with the 120 deg coming out of my tap.

Lighter fluid or varsol will remove adhesives, but I don't know if they will damage the label. I doubt it.

another vote for the scotch tape method that MrE mentioned. I use it to get the sticky residue left over from various stickers on the DVD case, don't see why it wouldn't work on the disc itself.

What type of container does the goo gone come in (is it goo gone or goo be gone)? I think I found it but it is a spray and was concerned spraying this on a DVD could damage it.

Goo Gone is not a spray, its a yellow liquid, that you squeeze out of a tiny hole.

I heard that using a hairdryer was a good way to remove the sticker.
