October Sky Special Edition -- new transfer?

Not that I remember anything really wrong with the image quality on the original DVD, but does the special edition have a new transfer?

I don't thnk so...dvdanswers specifically shows that backbeat will but makes no mentions of october sky. Not looking good.

Universal has announced special editions of October Sky which stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Laura Dern and Chris Cooper and Backbeat which stars Sheryl Lee, Stephen Dorff and Ian Hart. Both will be available to own from the 25th January next year, and should retail at around $14.98. Backbeat will include an all-new digitally remastered transfer and Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround track, along with a director commentary, A Conversation with Astrid Kirchherr, deleted scenes, an Iain Softley Interview for the Sundance Channel, an Interview with Iain Softley and Ian Hart, a TV Featurette, a Casting Session, a Director's Essay and a photo gallery. October Sky will feature a 2.35:1 presentation along with both English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround and English DTS 5.1 Surround tracks. Extras on this one will include an audio commentary with Homer Hickam, an Aiming High: The Story of the Rocket Boys featurette, another Spotlight on Location featurette, production notes and the theatrical trailer. So...is the transfer on the new SE of October Sky different than the one on the previously released disc? Both the reviews here and at DVDFile don't make mention of any differences...

Even if it's the same transfer I bet the SE looks better simply because it doens't have the FS verison.

That's what I thought too. Nearly all the extras from the old version are carried over to the SE. The SE drops the FS in favor of more diskspace for the new stuff.
