If you purchased the Space: 1999 mega-set, you got all of the episodic DVDs and a special "bonus" disk made by A&E that had the following...A must-have companion piece to A&E's SPACE: 1999 DVD sets, this disc goes further into the world of Moonbase Alpha with a host of rarely-seen treats and bonus material complementing Gerry Anderson's seminal sci-fi series. At its heart are three complete episodes, newly re-mastered from materials found in the Anderson archives:

Testament of Arcadia - featuring commentary by series co-creator Sylvia Anderson
Dragon's Domain - featuring commentary by episode writer Johnny Byrne & Year 1 Story Consultant Christopher Penfold
Death's Other Dominion - featuring commentary by series expert Scott Michael Bosco

The Space 1999 DVD Bonus Disc also includes:
World Premiere of the fan-produced series ending "Message from Moonbase Alpha (http://www.space1999.net/~catacombs/main/epguide/txmfma.html)"
Vintage Interview with Year 2 Set Designer Keith Wilson
Alternate Sequences from Key Episodes
Extensive Photo Galleries

The bonus DVD, when it's available on eBay (www.ebay.com), goes for over $20, but A&E (http://store.aetv.com/html/product/index.jhtml?id=70614&browseCategoryId=31285) is now selling them individually from their store and are only asking $14.95. Throw in a 20% off coupon (EVISA2, exp 6/30/05), and you can get it for $11.96 plus s/h ($2.50) for a total of $14.46 delivered

Tempting... I know Sam's Club had the entire series for $89.99 a long time ago, and I didn't get it (wish I had). Anyone know if Sam's still has this? I think I'd rather get the mega set and sell off the individual ones I bought...

I'd love to see A&E reissue the megaset (in slimmer thinpak cases), with the bonus disc contents added to the appropriate discs... the three episodes replacing the poorly transfered versions on the 'regular' discs, etc.

The current set takes up too much damn shelf space. And the haphazard nature of the bonus disc (correcting screwups from earlier transfers) makes the whole thing a little awkward.

Exactly....

This sets a bad standard with bonus dvd's.
They should have offered this free to anyone
who originally purchased the megaset or
volume sets with the sound problems.

A&E IMHO sets a new low in bonus for $$$.

I recently bought the Megaset from Barnes and Noble. It does not say on the box that is contains a bonus disk. From the first post, it sounds like all Megasets have this "bonus disk." Is that true, even though it does not say so on the box ?

Is this a different "bonus disk" ? In other words are there 2 different "bonus disks" ?

On the Compusa.com website, they mention about a bonus disk contained within the Megaset they are selling. Is this the one you are talking about or a different one ? Because that one states having 3 "new" (supposedly unaired episodes), as I recall.

Thanks.

Here are a couple of links to more info on the bonus disk:

Background on Bonus DVD (http://www.space1999.org/features/articles_interviews/mfmbaupdate_sept2002.html ) This link explains that at first the Bonus DVD was only available through Best Buy & Musicland stores. Then, after a few months, all stores with the Megaset would get the Bonus DVD. I recently saw the set at Borders, and it had the bonus DVD. Since this link is circa late 2002, early 2003, I'd expect all recent purchases of the Megaset have the bonus DVD. However, no sticker would seem to indicate a really old set that may not have the bonus disc.

Screenshots and more info (http://www.geocities.com/ditcin4/space1999megaset.html ) Review of the bonus DVD by Scott Bosco, who is a consultant on Space 1999. Shows video issues with the episodes, and explains why they were fixed on the Bonus DVD as opposed to being re-pressed (mostly a cost issue).

According to Background on Bonus DVD (http://www.space1999.org/features/articles_interviews/mfmbaupdate_sept2002.html), the bonus disc may ship in a plain white envelope in a manner identical to how it was included in the Space: 1999 Mega Set. I don't know, mine hasn't arrived yet. If it does come without a slipcase, here's a link to downloadable/printable artwork which can be used with any standard 1-DVD keeper:

Note: This artwork does not explicitly mention "Message from Moonbase Alpha", though there is a reference to supplemental material.

Note to others who want to take advantage of this. To use a coupon you need to have an account first before you can apply the coupon, which you have to apply before you enter checkout. Checkout lets you create an account as part of the process, but doesn't give you an option to add the coupon code later. Create the account, login, apply the coupon, and then checkout.

Also, don't bother entering a credit card number as part of your account info. I tried to do so, and it didn't recognize my AMEX card number properly due to some bug the way it is looking at CC #'s. It is optional so do it upon checkout where it is checked properly.

Also for California residents, add sales tax of 93 cents.

The link for DVD in the A&E store should be http://store.aetv.com/html/product/index.jhtml?id=70614&browseCategoryId=31285 If that dosen't work, go to http://store.aetv.com, search on "Space: 1999", and scroll down on the results page to the Bonus Disk listing.

When the first Mega-Sets started shipping, there were no bonus disks, apparently because A&E was still negotiating for the rights to distribute "Message from Moonbase Alpha". The bonus disks began shipping with the Megasets in September '02 and were exclusively available through Best Buy and the Musicland stores (Sam Goody, Suncoast, On-Cue, etc.). Then about a month later, A&E included them in all Mega-Sets to all locations. All of these sets included a sticker on the shrink wrap to indicate that the bonus disk was included.

There are two different versions of the bonus disk. The Region 2 "Cosmos: 1999" (French) DVD box set contains a bonus DVD with "Message from Moonbase Alpha" although the end credits are missing the musical score. The Region 1 bonus disk contains the only uncut, un-altered version of "Message" to make its way onto DVD. The R2 bonus disk does not have the three remastered episodes, but it does have an episode of UFO, and a Martin Landau interview made in 1994 for a French TV program (in English with French subtitles).
