I only have one thing to recommend - bold the important parts!!!

To Fox’s credit, they initially launched Wonderfalls. The review immediately captures my disappointment that they didn’t stand by it. Cheers had a slow first year, yet the network had the tenacity to let the momentum build. I didn’t learn of Wonderfalls until after it was cancelled, much to my delight and dismay. Could strong DVD sales lead to the series being continued? Perhaps sales could encourage more leniency for Tim Minear’s next project. Wonderfalls is unique in itself, yet similar to the Twilight Zone twist, with Daria-like intelligent humor. It is reaffirming to know there are people in the world that can create such excellence. More please.

I watched 3 episodes last night and while I enjoyed it I can see how it might of had a slow start. I'm a real sucker for shows that don't last very long. They are generally pretty good and they are easy on the wallet.

The theme song is pretty quirky too. I used the DVD to make the theme song a ringtone on my phone. It's very catchy in a weird kinda way.

I've been watching this and I wanted to chime in.

I'm about half-way throught, but I've totally fallen in love with most of the characters and the feel of the show (and FWIW, I didn't really care for Dead Like Me). Just the way they all talk and relate to each other makes me laugh. I didn't love it right away, though. I liked it right off the bat, but it wasn't until the 4th or 5th episode that the show really clicked for me. Interestingly, that's right when it got cancelled...

Here's an out-of-context quote from the show that made me fall out of my chair:
"Could you imagine if the Baby Jesus killed Mom and Dad?"


Then you need to check out the band XTC. Andy Partridge (the man who did the theme) is the lead singer and principal song writer of XTC and the Wonderfall theme is very much like one of their songs. The XTC connection was one of the reasons I tuned into Wonderfalls in the first place.

Don’t get me wrong. Content wise, I love the show.

But having watched the first three eps last night, I have to say that this was one of the most distractingly-bad anamorphic transfers I have ever seen. Framing, composition-wise, there is nothing to be gained from the extra 16x9 real estate. And blown up on my projector, the outdoor scenes in particular looked so blocky, I thought I was watching a Windows media file. Blecch.

Eventually, I wound up watching the rest zoomed to 4x3 on our 32” set.

All in all, though, I’m happy to just have the opportunity to see the series in its entirety. It sits proudly on a shelf next to Sports Night, in my “unfairly killed-in-the-crib” section.

I strongly disagree with you on the framing - I thought the widescreen really helped in the MANY shots utilizing a wide-angle lens (used mostly for exaggerated facial expressions, and cramped indoor shots) - and I didn't notice too many imperfections in the transfer either, maybe because I was too into the show to notice...

Anyways, I finished it over the weekend, and though I felt the final few episodes were relatively weak (particularly the Indian episode... blech), overall it was a very fun ride, with some great characters and performances. I especially loved that they ended the show with the song "Love Will Come Through" by Travis, one of my favorite songs from last year.

It's extremely grainy at times, but I don't think I'd characterize that as an imperfection in the transfer.
