It's Garry Shandling's Show and Not/the News
Does anyone have any information about these shows?
It's Garry Shandling's Show starring, who else, Garry Shandling? It use to be on Showtime in the last 80s. I loved this as a kid and can only image its a lot better now that I am old.
ALso anyknow of plans for a DVD of the early 80s fake News show ""Not Necessarily the News" I also loved it and Brain Games back in the days.
Would love to see NNtheNews and Garry Show on DVD?
Showtime also did a show called Brothers that may be nice to have on DVD
Any news on these?

I loved It's Garry Shandling's Show (1986-90). Although all four seasons and 72 episodes originally aired on Showtime (I think), the fledgling Fox Network re-ran them.
I don't tend to buy a lot of TV-on-DVD, but I'd snap up season sets of this one (ditto with the contemporaneous Tracey Ullman Show) in a heartbeat.
It also had the best theme song in the history of television:

It also had the best theme song in the history of television:
This is the theme to Garry's Show,
The theme to Garry's show.
Garry called me up and asked if I would right his theme song.
I'm almost halfway finished,
How do you like it so far?
How do you like the theme to Garry's Show?
This is the theme to Garry's Show,
The opening theme to Garry's show.
This is the music that you hear as you watch the credits.
We're almost to the part of where I start to whistle.
Then we'll watch "It's Garry Shandling's Show".

It's Garry Shandling's Show was a very funny show when it aired- It reminded me of the Classic Burns and Allen where Gary would step out of character and talk to the audience.
Not Ness the News- was great when it was airing on HBO- The only issue with it now is that the show may be a little outdated- due to the news that was covered.
Brother's was also good. One of the 1st sitcoms that introduced a gay character- If Showtime is still part of the Viacom family- I would not be surprised to see Brothers air on LOGO the new Gay-Lesbian- transgender- Channel that Viacom is launching in June.

I'd love to get It's Gary Shandling's Show on DVD. That show almost killed my father. I think it was the ping-pong episode. Gary hit a ball or something at the kid, he said Gary put his eye out, Gary said he was exaggerating and the kid said "see, there it is" (much funnier when you're actually watching it). My dad was taking a drink when the kid delivered his line and nearly choked, literally, on an ice cube. Looking back, I guess it wouldn't have been all that funny if my dad had actually died thanks to the rest of us laughing too hard, but the show combined with my dad's reaction was so hilarious, we were all too broken up to help him. FWIW, after a quick self-Heimlich maneuver, my dad dislodged the ice on his own, so it was all good.
