Copying TV Shows

I know this may be a very touchy subject here, but after spending about $500+ on TV shows(Jonny Quest, Simpsons 1-5, Buffy, and American Dreams just to name a few) I want to make some I get some back-ups so if one gets damaged I don't have to replace the whole set. is there a good way to make duplicates just so I'm insured, I know mostly all tv series are dual-layered, so I don't know a good way to compress them.
again probably a touchy subject so just send a message if this isn't allowed to talk about.
