DVD Talk review of 'Leon - The Professional (Deluxe Edition)'
I read Ian Jane's DVD review of Leon - The Professional (Deluxe Edition) at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=13832 and...
I'm going to nitpick a bit. Matilda was not in the apartment when the murders took place. She was running an errand, so she did not sneak out of the scene of the crime, she slipped by it. And she was not an eyewitness, but she could connect Gary Oldman and his crew to the crime.
Gary Oldman's over-the-top performance is entertaining, but borders on being irritating. He did not steal the movie. Jean Reno with his quiet presence domminates the movie and Natalie Portman more that holds her own.
I also do not appreciate the knocks at Ms. Portman. She was excellent in "Cold Mountain" and has received good reviews for several other movies.
I do agree the "Leon" is a great movie.
Thanks.

I thought Oldman's performance stole the show. There are only a few instances where I'd consider him close to being annoying, but considering how many scenes he got in comparison to the two main players, he makes a huge impact. Still one of my favorite villains.
And I thought Portman was great, too. Considering her age, she does an amazing job and did better than many of her fellow actresses probably could've done. Anytime I see someone say that people should lay off of so and so because they're still young actors, I point to Portman, who's clearly a natural even at the young age she was in Leon.

Did anyone prefer the theatrical release of this movie? I am not sure that the Russian Roulette scene and the invitation to have sex sceen would make this movie more enjoyable for me or kind of spoil it.
Perhaps I am like those people who did the original screening that resulted in these scenes being deleted.

I think the performances were great all around, Oldman was awesome, plays a great bad guy. My only complaint is for a deluxe release (and 4th release), I was hoping for more extra's.
