X-Files Season 1 for 35 bucks new at Amazon?

Glancing over some DVDs at amazon.com and I came across X-Files Season 1 for 35 dollars new, including free shipping. I always wanted to invest in X-Files but never had the money, but this might be a good way to start the collection.

Got mine for $4.99 shipped by signing up for the Amazon credit card, which I'll cancel right away, and getting a $30 coupon. It's one of the best deals I've ever gotten.

I've wanted to get all the seasons for such a long time and now it seems possible. Most seasons can be found for under $50 now if you wait for the deals to show up. I can't believe people were willing to pay $100+ for each set back in the day.

I'd like to get it, but I've got enough to watch yet. If it was $14.99 like the Dark Angel or Futurama, I would have ordered it though.

I still have not gotten around to watching my 24 Season 1 that I got on Black Friday for $12.99 at Best Buy.

Or the best price mistake ever for casual fans.

$35 is a good price but the other seasons are priced so high how can anyone stomach buying them? $70-$75 a season is just price gouging compared to the $40 prices on the other Fox season sets.

Well the MSRP for these were at one point around 125. Considering these came out back in the day when tv box sets were just being introduced and that was around the going price range. The lower MSRP of 89.99 fits the type of tv box sets now a days with shows like star trek and so forth.

has anyone else heard this rumor?

That's news to me. They have released them with different packaging in other regions but the price has stayed the same AFAIK.

Apparently the reason the series is so ridiculously priced is because the Duchovny, Anderson, Chris Carter, etc. get a chunk of the sales. So I imagine as long as they have a contract for those sales, the price will stay jacked up. Although I've heard that in some (and don't quote me on this) other regions, like R4, the MSRP is like $60 US.

This is a great deal, I ordered one. I sold my X-Files DVD's on eBay a while back when I needed the money. I hope the prices come down a little bit on the other seasons, I'd like to get the series back again.

yeah. the rumor that I know is that they will get a snazzly new packaging. But that the MSRP will still be pretty much up there in the 60-70 range. You are right that they do have a big piece of the pie when it comes to sales.

If the rumor is true, why would they get new packaging for? The package right now looks sweet, why change it?

Perhaps the new package is cheaper to produce? who knows. other regions have been getting the new package

http://www.fox.co.uk/dvd/page_intlcms_007591.html

and the currancy is still around the 59-69 range.

I am not very impressed with the new packaging, making those new package seems like a waste of time, I prefer the original, anybody like the new packages instead of the original?

More colorful means they stand out on the shelves. I assume that's the marketing behind it all.

Since this is more about the bargain than the DVDs and there is already reportedly a thread in the bargain forum I'm closing this.
