The Rolling Stones - Singles 1968-1971 Box Set: What happened?
(I tried to find the previous thread discussing the sets, so I really wouldn't mind if this one were incorporated)
Wasn't this set supposed to be released this past fall, after the second one was released during the summer? I haven't heard any word yet, and abkco's website makes no mention of it. Anyone have a clue?

I've been wondering the same thing. The last I read anything about it was several months ago when I read (sorry, I don't remember where) that they might include a dvd of Stones videos with the '68-'71 set. Any info about any of this would be appreciated.

From http://www.musictap.net: The 3rd volume of the Rolling Stones Singles Box, 1967-1971 is expected to become available some time in the spring. We'll let you know as soon as we find out.
In addition, the upcoming Rolling Stones re-release of Forty Licks via Abkco Records is an agreement between Virgin, who released the collection first, and Abkco. Virgin got to release the singles collection first and now the rights revert to Abkco. So, on February 15, Forty Licks will be released on Abkco logo.

Usually in the rights arena, it's ABKCO that drags their feet. Since the company OWNS the lions share of classic Stones tunes they won't do anything unless it promises them loads of cash for minimal effort. In the true spirit of Alan Klein!

I just read on the Stones European fan site (iorr.org) that the third box is due out on March 1st in the US and "probably" on Feb 28th in Europe. It'll have 9 CDs and 1 DVD. One CD will be all "Sympathy For The Devil", including the original 1968 version that was released in the UK in '76 as a single, plus three recent remixes. The DVD will have the "Jumpin' Jack Flash" video, the Ed Sullivan appearance of "Time Is On My Side", and a '67 clip of "Have You Seen Your Mother, Baby, Standing In The Shadows".

thanks for the details!
i can see that they probably delayed the set due to "not much to work with".... i didn't know fatboy slim was making rolling stones remixes in 1971? why not include the GnR cover too?!

CD 9 is basically a rehash of the Sympathy for the Devil Remix Single CD that came out in 2003 (as part of the aforementioned marketing) except the single was a hybrid SACD and this won't be.

haha, i know man! i was poking fun. the box set is supposed to be the singles from 68-71... including that and a dvd makes it seem like they were really searching. i hope it doesn't cost the same as the others that had like what, 12 cds?

To me, this whole singles box set seemed like a strange idea from the beginning since all the singles were already available (albeit without the 45 reproductions). Well, now that they are including a rare dvd, it all makes sense .

anyone know of a good deal on the set? it's out tomorrow. last couple times tower had it for about $39.99 on their site, but i'm not finding anything but full price as of right now, and $57 is a little steep.
