Harold & Kumar...sold out??

Hey all,

Just wondering if H&K was sold out anywhere else yesterday? I went to my local best buy and they only had 2 copies left of the "rated" edition and there was a good amount of people asking (like me) every sales associate they could find to go in the back and check. Finally, they came back out with the last box they had in stock.
Think this this gonna be a big DVD hit as opposed to the theatrical release?

I agree. I think this will be a bigger movie on DVD than in theaters. Seems like it's going that way for a lot of movies lately, especially ones that don't do to well on the big screen.

It would appear to be in the same boat as "Napoleon Dynamite". I usually go later in the week after their second / third shipments come in.

Went last night after work and there wasn't a single copy of either version to be found at my two nearest BB's. I checked online and none of the other four in my area had them in stock either. Pretty weird. I just added it to my DVDEmpire preorders for next week, instead of going crazy.

Yesterday, I went around 3:30 PM to the Chelsea NYC Best Buy (probably the same one as you digitalfreak) and they had very few left. There were a few rated versions on the new release and a few of both versions in the comedy section. They had copies of Still Smokin' and Nice Dreams but no more of How High.

I think that this movie will be a cult hit on DVD cuz it appeals to 2 niche markets (Asians & potheads). That said, I hope that sales are good enough that they release Harold & Kumar Go to Amsterdam

I thought something was odd when I went to rent it at noon and the video store had 3 copies out of 40 left. They open at 10am. There must be a bunch of people who want to see this movie.

The DVD is a good job. The menu is pretty cool too ("straight to the nudity..."). I saw the movie in the theater and I think it was even more funny the second time around.

Yeah, I want to see them go to Amsterdam. But how will they work NPH into the script?

Maybe he's on vacation? Or trying to escape crazed Doogie Howser fans who post on internet DVD chat boards with the same name?

Just a thought...

Yesterday I went to go and pick it up at my local Best Buy and to my amazement they were nowhere to be found. I walked around and looked for a clerk and asked him about it he told me that they were sold out. With my luck, my local Best Buy sits right next to a Wal Mart and they had plent of Harold and Kumar Unrated Editions to be found.

It doesn't surprise me. This is the type of film that probably will get a much bigger following on DVD, especially with the college/high school crowd. These are great get wasted and watch with a group type of movies.

I tried, but the BB I went to didn't have any of the other DVD's to get the offer. So I just bought the Eternal Sunshine CE, and went down the street to Target to pick up H&K.

Both stores had plenty of copies of it.

As i mentioned in the other thread in Bargains, my Best Buy actually had quite a few copies. At least a whole end of the shelf full just for Harold and Kumar. I'm assuming they sold quite a few on Tuesday so they put out more today.

The 3 titles are:
Cheech & Chong's Up in Smoke, C&C's Nice Dreams and How High.

The original Half Baked is out of print and the new SE isn't out yet.

Is this movie simply a "stoner flick"?

Will it be funny to someone who doesn't laugh just because someone is on screen acting high? Munchies jokes and all.

Some are funny......when there is a point to them, but most are REALLY stupid.

I enjoyed half baked, but disliked How High and Cheech & Chong movies.

In Canada it only has the words "Exteme" on the cover, is this the unrated version?

I noticed that other countries have the words "Extreme - Unrated".

I went back to Best Buy today to pick up Eternal Sunshine SE (BB didn't have it on Tuesday for some reason), and noticed that there was only 1 copy left of H&K on the shelf, and on Tuesday night, half the stash was gone, so it's probably the heaviest seller in my area per copy ordered.
