Since the current release isn't uncut, I wouldn't be surprised to see an unrated version around the corner.

This is New Line isn't it? New Line doesn't seem to care about it too much. New Line didn't care much about Short Cuts or My Own Private Idaho hmm...could a Criterion disc be on the way? Maybe.

Seen it? I've always wondered what the cut footage is.

No I have not seen it,but have been thinking of picking it up sometime(it's on ebay once in awhile).

From what I have read,it is mainly a few seconds(either in a couple scenes..or throughout the film) of more graphic violence. Which was toned down alittle to avoid an NC-17.

also on imdb.com,they mention a rumor of the Hughes Brothers commenting on a prision riot sequence, which the studio forced them too cut out for being too intense. I don't know if the quote from them is true or not(can anyone verify it?). But it would be interesting to find out if it is true or not and see the footage if it exists.

Criterion released their next film Dead Preisidents unrated on laserdisc as well, which again includes more graphic violence cut too avoid an NC-17.

I wonder if the Criterion transfers were used for the current dvds at all? Since Disney used Criterions uncut Trainspotting transfer for the first dvd release(before that version was officially rerated R from the original NC-17).

But anyway,it would be nice if unrated SE's of both Menace and Presidents were released on dvd.

excellent movie that deserves a Special Edition. i remember seeing some of the prison riot scene, i just cant remember where. i dont think its on the laserdisc unless theres just some quick shots of it. it may have been some documentary about the Hughes Brothers. maybe someone else knows.

America's nightmare. Young, black, and didn't give a f---.

Menace II Society remains my favorite "growing up in the 'hood" movie and it really needs the Platinum Series treatment.
