Tori Amos' "the Beekeeper" -- February 22nd
Tori's latest album, the Beekeeper, is to be released on February 22, 2005. It was recorded at Martian Engineering in Cornwall, England.
from ToriAmos.com:
On songs like "Sweet the Sting," "Sleeps with Butterflies," and "Ribbons Undone," Tori incorporates vintage organs, Afro-Cuban drums and Gospel choirs, working once again with longtime partners, drummer Matt Chamberlain and bassist Jon Evans.
Tori says, "The Beekeeper is musically inspired by the fact that the piano has realized that she has an organ - with my right hand on her organ and my left hand on her piano keys, I have been changed by the relationship between these two beautiful creatures, the Bosendorfer piano and the B3 Hammond organ."

Always nice to hear new stuff from Tori. Hopefully the cd/dvd combo will be priced really cheaply again like CC did for Scarlet Walk.

I was really excited for this CD...until I heard Sleeps with Butterflies.
Zzzzzzz......
What an incredibly Adult Top 40 song! So dull, so middle-of-the-road. I really hope she hasn't mellowed even further, since I thought Scarlet's Walk was already getting a bit too diluted for my taste. Oiyo.

SW was very diluted. I'm waiting for her to get back to Choirgirl which was easily her best album. Also a major fan of Venus.
Going to see her "concert" here in NYC next month.

Details, por favor...
Ditto. I've been trying to find out any tour information and have come up empty. I missed her on the last tour since it had sold out by the time I found out about it.

For some odd reason they started selling the tix during the summer & stopped (maybe realizing the mistake??). I got lucked out & got tickets, but for balcony seats. The website states they will start selling tickets in January. I'm constanting checking for updates to try getting a bit closer.

I got my tix the night they went on sale. Since I'm going alone, I got my single ticket right on the aisle in the 5th row I believe. If anyone is going and want to meet up, let me know. There will be an actual tour next year. It's confirmed.

Like the new single. Tori's music has really matured. For the record, I thought SW was her best work and am hoping for more of the same from Beekeeper...

Hate to say it but I've been struggling to listen to this album the last few days and it's a serious disappointment. The best songs on this album equal probably some of the worst songs on the last album. It just drags on and on and on. Rhythmically, it's just a mess. There are a few "good" ones but nothing great and as I said before, that duet is just horrible.
It's ridiculous how my very favorite artists have been going down the tubes as of late.

I'm also a longtime fan that was disappointed with the mellow Scarlett Walk. I liked the direction she was going with singles like "Raspberry Swirl" and "Bliss" from the Choirgirl and Venus albums. I forgave the album of covers as a quick hack job, but I think I'll need to be open minded about the Beekeeper. I went ahead and preordered Beekeeper (to get the free poster) from sonymusicstore.com, with the SHOPVISA coupon, the deluxe version was $16. I added some SACDs to get the free shipping promotion too.

I was listening to it with a friend last night. Be prepared for some serious blues/jazz/gospel on it. It's also very 70's sounding as well. That's what she picked up just from the songs I played for her. Funny, because I didn't like that style of music when it happened and even thought I adore tori, not really feeling it with her. There are a couple of songs that are really cute but at the same time, it all feels really unfinished. I feel like I'm listening to a CD full of demos or alternate takes.
