NEW YORK (Billboard) -- With memories of a successful summer tour in Southeast Asia still fresh in their minds, the members of Linkin Park are spearheading an effort to help victims of the earthquake and tsunami that have devastated the region.
The Los Angeles-based rock act has set up an organization called Music for Relief (http://www.musicforrelief.org) with an initial donation of $100,000. It will directly support American Red Cross (http://www.redcross.org) programs.
These guys are a class act. :up:

No doubt. You know they made some decent money with the Jay Z collaboration. I'll be interested to hear what other musicians/celebrities donate spare wealth to help out with the cause.

Can't say that I'm a fan of the music, but that was definitely nice of them.
Are they a big money-making band? I'm not up on what's exactly popular with the kids ;). I'm assuming 100k is alot for this band... which makes me wonder where the donations are from the big-money artists (and entertainers for that matter).

Yeah I think Linkin Park is probably a big money-making band. They probably made over $100K just on t-shirts alone. With that being said, that is still wonderful that they donated that much to relief effort.

NEW YORK (AP) -- Actress Sandra Bullock has donated $1 million to the American Red Cross to help relief efforts in countries affected by the deadly earthquake and tsunamis in southern Asia and eastern Africa.
Bullock, whose screen credits include "Miss Congeniality," "While You Were Sleeping" and "Speed," contacted the American Red Cross last week, the organization said Monday.
She also donated $1 million after the September 11 terror attacks.
"At this critical time, I am grateful to Sandra Bullock for once again demonstrating her leadership, compassion and belief in our global humanitarian mission," said American Red Cross President and Chief Executive Officer Marsha Evans in a statement. "Sandra continues to enable our lifesaving work and is a model for personal generosity."

I'm not so sure... i always figured big donations pretty much always hit the media, whether it's announced or not.

Everybody who has fat pockets should be donating to this disaster relief. This thing is 30+ times worse than Sept. 11. It's nice to see Americans supporting a disaster relief effort that mostly benefits foreigners.
My teacher in college left our class to leave the country during our recent finals, little did he know he'd be hanging from a tree in Sri Lanka. He wrote an article about it in the Chicago Tribune.
