Francois Ozon's 5 x 2 -March 16 (2DVD set)

Francois Ozon's 5 X 2 is set to be released on March 16 in France by Fox Pathe on a double dvd set. Preliminary info indicates no subs however one of my contacts has confirmed to me that subs will be offered (we shall see what's true here).

More info about the film (trailer, photos, etc) could be seen at Ozon's website (English version available here):

This film provides tons of laughter...all utterly unintentional, unfortunately. It's so sad to see Valerie Bruno Tedesci stuck in such a lame film.

I am going to be so angry if there are no subtitles on this release. Please post when you can confirm if subs will be offered.

By the way, Amazon.fr is offering the set for 24,98 Euros, much cheaper than FNAC.

Well, it seems like this title might be another dust-biter. My friend Maurice has confirmed no subs on his screener (though a Luxemburg disc...doubt it, it will be any different than the French one)

...and it looks like a great package too....

confirmed....no subs.....and by all means this shapes out to be a superb dvd package (DTS, 2 cuts of the film, deleted scenes, commentary....you name it, it's there)

I'm not familiar with this film. Does it suck as much as all Ozon's other films do?

I thought this was a notch below Ozon's recent stuff (Swimming Pool, 8 femmes, Under the Sand etc.), so if you didn't like his previous stuff you may well not enjoy this one...

Dazza.

..I didn't think Sous le sable 'sucked' at all - in fact, I think it is truly a brilliant movie - and Charlotte Rampling deserves to be named a national treasure (of Great Britain and France) - but, hey, that's just me...

Yes it sucks. Stay away from this film as well as every other Ozon title, they all suck.

Too late - I've already seen all his other films. I guess I'm just a glutton for punishment.

IMHO, Francois Ozon is one of the most brilliant and original directors working today. I own all of his films. The Ozon "Coffret" from France is one of the jewels of my collection.

Do what I do, just ignore anything Grimfarrow says about Ozon.

well, it was a few weeks that I din't come to this forum and ... well, I don't want to be unpolite so I'll quote a person who maybe is more authoritative than pro-b or wendersfan
According to Ingmar Bergman - as reported by Jan Aghed in Positif 497/498 - Sous le sable de Francois Ozon ... il s'agit d'un superbe travail, qui l'a impressionné au point qu'il l'a revu plusiers fois.
Furthermore Ozon is regularly in competition at Cannes, Berlin or Venice: he deserves more respect.

Bergman's intitled to his opinion, as am I, pro-bassoonist, and Grimfarrow. Jacques Rivette apparently thinks Showgirls is a misjudged masterpiece, so I wonder how much 'authority' directors have over their colleagues work...

But maybe I should at least give Under the Sand another shot.

Interesting...hope it is not a mistake. On a side note Artificial Eye have acquired the rights for this release in the UK as well. So there will be an English friendly release. If the Germans release it with subs though I shall be picking it up together with 1900.

It would be a shame though if they only offer 2.0 mix.

You could read the review at Rama (do you speak French?) and see for yourself. Basically, the dvd will offer the option of viewing the film in a manner that was used for the Memento presentation. Which is...following the story chronologically (I am sure you are familiar with the structure of the film and how the story evolves).

Furthermore, the second version, is rather an experimental take that Ozon worked on.- 4/3 aspect ratio and stereo sound. That's it. As you could see quite different from what is offered in the "original" version for the dvd. In addition there appears to be some extended footage as well not included in the cut specified above (2nd disc with additional extras).

Here's the specific part of the review that addresses the issue....

....Voila....hope this clears things out for you....

Ciao,
Pro-B

I have the 2 disc French release. The "version remontée" is in 16/9 and stereo. It's basically the same scenes, just in reverse order.

By the way, ThinkFilm has acquired the distribution rights in the US. 5x2 will be released in theaters in June. I'm not sure who they use to produce their DVD's.

Also, to my knowledge, UGC Films Ltd. is the distributor in the UK. They are listed as the distributor at the British Board of Film Classification website.
