Last summer, Bestbuy had a deal about high-speed internet(in-store activation) including free cable modem and $75 gift card.
Can I get a promotion like that right now?
I'm using Comcast and going to move to Ohio.
Thank you in advance!

Not sure if Comcast has service in Ohio - may want to check w/ them - but for existing customers, you can call their retentions dept. and threaten to leave and they'll put you on a promo plan.
When I was using Comcast and was going to cancel to DSL they put me on a 19.99 plan for 6months.

Can you get RoadRunner in Ohio?

Thank you guys!
I visited the website of Road Runner.
There is one offering in my area.
It is said that "First12 months at $34.95 per month plus Free Installation!** " and the service price is 44.95.
Will Comcast charge installation fees in my case?
Do I have to tell Comcast to move the internet to my new place?
or quit the service and order newly?
Which one will be better for me between continuing Comcast and ordering Road Runner right now?

Not trying to "hijack" this thread, but I'm moving to a new apartment where cable broadband isn't available. I'm looking for any DSL broadband deal in the middle TN area.

Got your email, thanks Mitz!

Circuit City is offering free Motorola modem and a giftcard between $25 - $100 with activation this week. Looks like there are several options based on location.
I just found out that Comcast is available in my area, so I'm anxious to get off dial up.
Any one know if the modem they are offering is ok? Motorola SB5100 (http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Motorola-Cable-Modem--501209-001-00-/sem/rpsm/oid/71342/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do)
Also, on the Comcast site, they have something on there about buying a 'home networking' plan. Does anyone know, can you set your own network up, or do you have to pay them a fee or something for using more than one computer?

I'm using the Motorola SB5100 and it works fine as far as I'm concerned - no problems whatsoever. I'm no expert on what makes a cable modem a good one, though. It is what my cable provider gave me to use.

Here is the list of approved modems on Comcast. I am sure if you pick one or two of them out at random, you'll find them for sale on eBay for CHEAP. I was able to get one off of eBay for $8 shipped. Comcast will lease one to you for $3/month.

Just called Comcast last night. Told them it was too much and that I could get a better deal somewhere else. Got it lowered to 29.99 for the year.

My brother called Comcast yesterday and tried to get his monthly rate lowered. The retention guy gave him a lecture about how Comcast doesn't compete on price because they are faster than DSL. The rep said download/upload speeds would increase again in a few months and cable was like a luxury car, while DSL was an economy car. The rep refused to switch him over to the $19.95 for 6 months intro rate or to match a $29.99/mo DSL price. The only discount offered was 3 months at $10 off his regular rate. The rep even offered to shut his service off so he could switch to DSL.
I told him to call back and try a different CS rep to see if he could get a deal.
