Christmas with the Kranks 11.08.05

from dvdanswers

We've managed to obtain the official release date for the recent Christmas With The Kranks movie which stars the likes of Tim Allen, Jamie Lee Curtis and Dan Ackroyd. The comedy, based on John Grisham’s best-selling novel Skipping Christmas, will be available to own in shops from the 8th March next year. The retail price should be set at around $28.95. Details are still a little sketchy on disc contents, although the disc should carry both anamorphic widescreen and full screen presentations along with a selection of preview trailers. We'll bring you the official region one artwork in the coming days. Stay tuned for that.

Why do I have a difficult time believing this news?

The movie has been marginally successful (I liked it better than most critics, to be sure), but I don't think it is good enough to warrant a $28.95 price tag. Plus, who in their right mind is going to purchase a Christmas movie in March??

I haven't gotten around to see the movie yet. How is it? I know I'll most likely pick it up if it comes out 3.8.05 or even after that.

Everyone I have talked to has had a love/hate relationship with this film. But what gets me is the lack of special features... And about the $28.99 MSRP price tag, most DVDs have a MSRP between $24.99 and $29.99 and stores discount from that price (thats why an average dvd goes for $18/$20)

Yeah, a christmas dvd in March is really, really bad marketing. Best way to back a holiday film is to release it's dvd release near the holidays the following holiday season....

With that being said. Anybody for Polar Express in April?

Wouldn't it make sense to wait until Oct./Nov.? It'll be due for a price drop right around the time when everyone would actually want to buy it. Silly.

I wouldn't be surprised to see this get bumped back to November 2005. It's been a modest hit and it'd perform so much better as a big holiday seller next year.

And John Grisham wrote the novel?

But don't they have to release the Ultimate edition before they can release the Extreme edition?

I am a big xmas movie fan and like Tim Allen especially the Santa Clause Movies which I got this year. I looked forward to seeing this movie but when I did I realized that once again the trailer was actually better than the movie itself. Good for a viewing but not enough to own. Maybe if they bring out a super extreme trailer only edition I'll pick it up.

But I also agree with the release date. I totally expect to have to wait until October or November to get the Polar Express.

Although they could release it this year like Surviving Christmas!!!
