I am buying a 2 unit building in SF with a partner, and it is a legal 2 unit building however the address is 1450, with no apparent apartment a or b, or 1 or 2 etc.

We would like it to be 1450 and 1452, I have been told it's up to the post office.

Either side of us are 2 unit buildings, which are 1446 and 1448
and 1454 and 1446, so it would seem pretty simple.

Anyone done this?

in case anyone cares, this is the place.

We'll take the upper unit.

I doubt they'd give you 1450 and 1452 if it's in the same building.

It appears to be how its done though, like I said on one side is a building that is both 1454 and 1456 etc.

It will be 2 seperate condo's

In my town the Post Office has nothing to do with the address this is done by county planning office. You might try calling you county office and asking. For example we built a house last year on a corner, it had been planned with two addressess (one for each street) we had to take the one where the driveway came out per the city planner. There were also other rules about displaying the address for 911 response purposes.

The Post Office has nothing to do with assigning addresses.

Zip codes, yes. Addresses, no.

That must be confusing for the postman.

Units in two-flats around here will often use a "1/2" address. So one would be 1450 and the other would be 1450 1/2.

I wouldn't be surprised if the address already existed for this unit. Maybe long ago the original owner didn't use the other address. Just go ahead and put 1450 and 1452 on the building. Then try mailing 2 letters to those addresses and see if they get there.
