Actor Josh Brolin, stepson of Hollywood legend Barbra Streisand, was arrested yesterday and accused of hitting his Oscar nominated wife in their Los Angeles home, police said.
Brolin, 36, was charged with spousal battery and was released on £10,000 bail, said the Los Angeles County sheriff.
Brolin, the son of actor James Brolin, married Diane Lane, the Oscar-nominated star of Unfaithful, in August.
His father married Barbra Streisand six years ago.
Kelly Bush, the couple's spokeswoman, said: "There was a misunderstanding at their home. Diane called the police. Josh ended up being arrested for the lowest-end misdemeanour charge of domestic battery.
"She did not want to press charges and asked them not to arrest him, but in cases involving the possibility of any physical contact, the police have to arrest first, ask questions later. They are home together and are embarrassed the matter went this far,"
Brolin is due in court on January 13.
