Official LOTR:ROTK EE thread?

OK, we have several threads about the packaging, another thread about issues with disk 1, and a few about the slipcase offer. But I don't see any threads about people's thoughts on the actual content of the disks.

For me, this was actually my least favorite EE, although that may change after listening to the commentaries. I'm not talking about any of the extras, just the added content to the movie. I really feel some of the changes really messed with the momentum of the movie, or were just unnecessary. The one scene that bothered me the most was the extension of the Army of the Dead scene, where the King agreed to help. If they had stopped there, it wouldn't have been so bad, but to then show the Corsairs of Umbar scene, where the Army of the Dead attack the boats, totally ruined one of the best scenes of the movie for me, which is the Undead Army arriving at the Battle of Pelennor Fields. Don't get me wrong, the Corsairs scene is cool to watch, but I know some people skipped the theatrical version and just waited for the EE. For them, I don't think the scene at the end would have been nearly as effective, since they've already seen the Undead Army attack before.

The Houses of Healing scene also felt a little out of place. Eowyn is taken there and Aragorn is no longer in his armor. After he tends to her for a bit, she wakes up. Then we immediately cut to Pippin finding Merry on the battlefield. It just feels disjointed.

I watched all 3 EE's more or less back to back, and I would have to say FOTR is still my favorite. The additional scenes really added a lot to the story. My next favorite would be TT, simply because I just wasn't very fond of the theatrical cut. The EE really felt like a better movie. Hopefully, with time, my impression of the ROTK EE will change. Don't get me wrong, I still really liked it, it just flowed much less smoothly than the first two.

Maybe because discussion about the actual movie itself go into movie talk. Discussion about the actual disc itself go here in dvdtalk.
