Sound of Music going OOP and more news you already know
from davisdvd.com
A number of titles have been announced for retirement from 20th Century Fox. Going bye-bye are the single-disc Predator 2 and Office Space on January 25th and both single and double-disc editions of The Sound of Music on April 29th. Office Space is being axed to make way for a new special edition to be released later in the year. Previously on moratorium, Star Wars: The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones will be back in stores on March 22nd.

So the two-disc 'Sound of Music' has been back in print? I didn't realize, I thought it was one of those two-disc Fox discs that Best Buy got a new run of (a la 'Fight Club' or 'The Abyss'), but I didn't realize it was available everywhere. Now I have to buy it before April...

Well there was the 5-star edition of the Sound of Music which was re-released as 2-disc special edition since the 5-star line of DVDs was dropped.
Then the next release of Sound of Music will likely be a 40th Anniversary Edition and hopefully will have a shining new transfer.

Apparently, all the edge enhancement and filtering is something added to the NTSC DVD master. The HD transfer lacks this, so perhaps Fox will be able to make a DVD without video that makes eyes bleed.

SOM will be re-released if one wishes to wait for whenever they do so.

Totoro was announced by Disney as an August 31st release along with Porco Rosso and Nausicaa, but when that date got shifted to February 22nd, Totoro was dropped and The Cat Returns substituted in its place. It's obviously in the works but there's no new date yet. In any event it's not a Fox title anymore.
