Nintendo DS to play music and video (mp4) now

The "open mouth and insert foot" award goes to Nintendo on this one.... After going on and on and on about how they are all about games and how convergence devices were for "morans" they backtrack and release a music and media player for the DS. You can't tell me this isn't a reaction to all the media player hype that the PSP is getting.

I think Sony should release an add-on touch screen for the PSP now and karma would be restored to the universe.

That's typical Nintendo....putting thier foot in thier mouth. My favorite nintendo quote is "we're in the video game business not movies" ....this was about CD's on video game systems.

In other news:

Sony fanboys again attack Nintendo. The reasons why are still under review, but most insiders suspect some form of inferiority complex. More as it develops.
Will it break your hearts if I told you Nintendo has been selling videos on the GBA for years? Would it break your hearts if I told you Nintendo helped to develop a MP3 player for the GBA years ago? Multimedia functions are not new to Nintendo, in fact Nintendo previously mentioned they would likely support videos and mp3's on the ds in the future. Is it a response to the Sony PSP? Perhaps, the PSP is a damn fine game machine, but this move from Nintendo is not them putting their foot in their mouths. See, the device as is, only plays games. If you want to pay more for the features you can, but you arn't required to. Bah.....

I'm sorry, I just don't understand why you two are in every DS topic pissing all over the unit. It's like Nintendo's choice in business strategy is responsible for some sort of problems in your life. I don't know why its so hard for you guys to grasp that a) competition is good and b) The DS is not going to come into your home and butt rape you at night.

I'll take the cartridges of the N64 over the excruciating load times of PS1 games any day, that was the right move in my opinion. CD technology is much better than it was back then.

I'm not sure this is an insert foot situation, the Movie/Music is certainly not the focal point of the DS and I think this is just a cute add on. Personally I'm happy that I didn't have to pay for features I wouldn't use and wouldn't be integrated into the games. If I get a PSP (and I will if something worth playing comes along) I seriously doubt I'll be watching movies on it anyway.

Jeff, you jump into every PSP thread and piss all over the place too Who are you kidding?

The Franchise has posted a good article and was discussing how Nintendo is jumping on the PSP bandwagon with music.

Load times did suck...but people loved those CD's (FFVII) Anyway, I don't want to side track us.

Silly thread.

Good business move on N's part.

Why do people take these game companies so personally, as if it defines who they are.

I'm sure if N said they won't do this there would be a similar post saying how stupid they are.

And by the way.. it's spelled "MORONS", not Morans.

Not taking it personally, just commenting on how a company can completely backtrack on it's initial criticism of another company. I think some other people on here are a bit more "lively" in their discussion.

As for "moran"... I guess you just don't get it....

Well, they already had a TV adapter, now memory cards for movies and music.

What I want to know is where the hell is the damn headset.

WTF? Someone posted info on problems, I clearly agreed with Josh that it was a good question to the # of faulty units and then posted a video of one of the problems.

You are such a fanboy you can't accept it when people are simply discussing the FACTS of a situation.

MOD EDIT: See note below. -namja

Not putting there foot in their mouths. That kind of stuff should be available seperately for "morans" who want to listen to music or watch movies on a portable gaming system. Saves people like me with no interest in that crap (or who already have MP3 players, laptops etc to do these things) for being forced to pay more for the game unit b/c it's full of non-gaming features we won't use/don't need.

This thread seems like an informative thread, but it's really just a jab at Nintendo for something every company does (including Sony and Microsoft).

jeffdsmith, it may seem like a fine line, but we draw the line at name calling.
Get Me Coffee, if "someone needs a Mario hug!" isn't trolling, I don't know what is.

Anyway, closing thread. If anyone else wants to discuss the merits of the Nintendo DS playing music/video, then feel free to open another thread.
