ALONE IN THE DARK trailer online, in theaters January 28th...Avoid at all costs...

According to Bloody-Disgusting, Alone in the Dark, previously scheduled for a Fall 2004 release, and up to this point a January 28, 2005 release, will now go direct to video.

Big shocker, isn't it... Okay, no it's not a shocker at all. Good riddance to bad rubbish. Just watch the hilarious footage available online.

This is where Uwe Boll should reside for the rest of his career, in the straight-to-video world.

This was destined to be straight-to-video. It's been eons since a movie starring Christian Slater has had a theatrical release.

Too bad. Movies based on video games are usually so good!

Never heard of this movie until now. For starters the web site is terrible. I saw the trailer and I think all I can say is that it looks like it is made for video only. I could never see paying a full theater price so see it.

unfortunately house of the dead didn't wind up this way *sigh* and forget straight to video world. I'm thinking more along the lines of straight-to-trashcan world.

Hmmm.... Well, now i'm guessing that this info I posted a while back is WRONG.

My friends informed me that last night they saw a tv spot for ALONE IN THE DARK.

YIKES.

Yeah, Lions Gate has been running promos on MTV 2 and Comedy Central promoting the film's 1/28 release.

It's coming out.

All this has to do is poop out 10 million in theatrical, and Lions Gate will be smiling. DVD will take care of itself.

Here is the official trailer, in case anyone is interested.

I can't even understand what is going on during the final half of the trailer, so much flashy matrix-y editing. Thanks Uwe, but NO THANKS.

I do have to admit that, unlike Paul Anderson or numerous other poor directors out there, Boll's House of the Dead was so goddamn awful that it truly crossed into the so bad it's funny territory (at least for me). So...here's hoping this flick is truly terrible like his last film, cause then it might be fun to watch.

Here's a recent interview with Boll from the set of his next sure to be masterpiece "Bloodrayne" (Ben Kingsley, why???). Let the man himself tell you how wonderful "Alone in the Dark" will be, as well as which videogame properties he plans to f*** up in the future:

I have put this trailer on Darkness already and there are 3 theatrical one sheets in the projection office, why would they suddenly send this straight to video?

Jeez what a pompous asshole. Anyone actually read this interview?

I'm really pissed right now about a few Web pages.
There were 280 people in the test screening and only these five idiots think it's a bad movie…
If the movie is so sh***y, what the guy is writing [on the website], then why are the people saying something different, this is the point… I'm really pissed about it, still… If there's only that crap out on these Web pages, then everybody is talking about only that thing. It's pissing me off…
Jeez, what a whining ninny. Can't take any criticism.

This guy is just clueless.

The main point for me is, the same people writing that s**t on the Internet, these are the people that should be happy that someone is doing it, because the studio [doesn't] give a s**t, they would do only Erin Brockovich movies mixed with Van Helsing.
So a terrible, shitty video game movie is better than no video game movie at all? Honestly, I've never played any of the games Boll is planning to turn into movies, except Hitman. So I don't really care if he delivers a 'faithful' translation of the games. But the things I truly hated about House of the Dead (the Matrix scene, the martial artist zombies, the flashes to the videogame for no reason...) were all the director's touches. And Boll was also a producer, so he can't blame them. Maybe he truly cares about these projects, I don't know. If so, that makes him a sad sort of modern-day Ed Wood. But whether he's a hack or simply incompetent, he's not a good director.

At least this interview answered one question I had... how he was able to get the opportunity to direct all these projects:
He currently holds the rights for Far Cry, Hunter: The Reckoning, Fear Effect and it's possible that one of those could be his next project.

The funny thing is, his films are nothing like the games he based them on. House of the Dead...teenagers at a rave...that has nothing to do with the game. Bloodrayne is a game about a vampire killing nazis...yeah, let's change that around. And Alone in the Dark was never an action game.

So, for all his whining, it's funny cause his movies crap all over the games their based on. He is funny though.

Please don't compare Boll to Ed Wood. Atleast one could sit through Wood's movies and have fun. Wood made so-bad-there-good B-films and Boll makes so-bad-there-just-bad films.

I shake my head at the cast he has here and with Bloodrayne. For the budget LGF wasted for Boll to make films, they'd be better of funding some up-and-coming independent filmmakers.
