I ordered it. Nice of New Line to offer this.

Agreed, they are very thoughtful ...one of the first to offer rebates for owning the theatrical release and now this. They know how to please their customers.

I'm sure Newline knows that there are completists that would actually rebuy all the trilogys to get the slip case...

I just ordered it. Which is ironic, because I usually discard the collector's boxes. But since I'm getting some new shelving this week, I'll have room for the little extra room that the collector's boxes take up.

I will be ordering this once I received an email from New Line Cinema support. Just a precautions for my part (I have been already a victim of credit card fraud :-(

The question I have in mind is that why would they [New Line Cinema] create another domain name if they can sell these on their online shop? I mean creating a domain name just for selling a DVD slipcase... don't you think it's a bit extreme?

I emailed New Line Cinema and asked if the domain name is really them... Once I received their response and it is truely theirs, I will order this in a heartbeat!

@dgc..... Thanks for the link and info!

HA HA HA HA HA. I doubt it will "Sell out" as this is being made for those who buy the trilogy. So the number of units being produced will be well into the billions to serve all those who will be buying the dvds tomorrow.

Limited time offer valid until March 31, 2005 or while supplies last. Quantities are limited.

with an offer going into March 31's, they will be producing plenty of these. They only have the Quantities are limited to cover their bases legally. But I'm pretty sure that this will be fine ordering anytime within the next few months.

Well, I just ordered one. I think they will sell out fast, but since most people won't even know about this site until they get their DVD which will be tomorrow at the earliest for most, I seriously doubt they're sold out yet.

And while this is nice from New Line, may I point out that Universal sent out a box and a bonus DVD for free to people who purchased Jurassic Park III.

I say it will be sold out after christmas. Gifts and other stuff. But I'm sure that they have plenty to meet demand. I doubt they only made a couple hundred. This is a big title and since they will be producing these cases for the three pack, they will still have plenty around.

I see that some people have placed orders of the slipcase and received e-mails confirming their orders. I got my ROTK EE yesterday and attempted to place an order for the slipcase. Each time I tried to, I would get an error message saying I had not filled in all the information which was not the case.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Is the site not designed to go "live" until today or sometime thereafter?

There's a slip in the box to send a cheque/money order of $4 to get the trilogy box. No online site, but rather a mailing address, plus you get $5 and $10 rebates depending on how much ROTK dvds you bought (combination of ROTK theatrical, ROTK EE and ROTK gift set).

Hey all...

Seems legit to me.... However, is there any link to http://www.lotrdvdbox.com/ on any other "official" website? I didn't even see one on newline website.... And also -- this is bascially free -- and the ONLY cost is the $3.00 shipping fee -- right? Bacially, seems like a "thank you" gift for those who bought all three of the box sets. Has anyone seen the charge on their card yet? Anyone been able to use a debit card, even though it says you can't?

Thanks,

M

I ran into the "you've already ordered" problem when trying to order the slipcase, and on a hunch tried again using I.E. (instead of Netscape), and the transaction went right through. I'm immedately suspicious that the developers of the site used code that only works properly if it is accessed by I.E.

If you're getting the "you've already ordered" error and actually haven't successfully done so, you might try again using I.E. (it worked for me....!)

What should give it away that it is "legit" is that the offer comes in the LOTR:Return of the King DVD Extended Edition. Official enough for you. ;)

New Line has made DVD history by doing literally everything right from start to finish, including this box offer.

I'm glad to give them my business and their sales and awards by the industry speak for themselves.

Ordered mine yesterday when I first saw the offer in my ROTK box. I agree that New Line has done a great job with this movie, from start to finish, all 3 parts. Just got the box for the Ultimate Highlander Collection, too, and it only cost me $1. And it's 3 times larger. Not bad, either.

I don't know if I will use the LOTR EE box. For $3, I figured it was worth trying out. I don't like the way the outer boxes tend to scrape up the inner boxes if they are cardboard, like the EEs are. We'll see...

I wondered that on the first page of the thread over in the Bargains forum. The box seems to be similar to the material housing the individual EE sets... i can't imagine having to fold them together, and shipping them in that awkward size would obviously more costly. Hopefully it's the latter, or that they have some way to put it together without it looking awkward.

I am expecting them to be shipped together with probably styrofoam or something stuffed inside them, much like when you buy an anime Vol. 1 + box type DVD. If it comes unfolded it will be a piece of crap and I will be pissed. It won't cost them much if they ship it media mail at all. I doubt they are trying to make a killing on these boxes. They know damn well they could have charged atleast $5 for this box and easily got the orderes coming in.

i've seen the EE boxset in stores, and the dark-olive-colored slipcover can't be folded, as it's as solid as the individual slipcases, and are glued together at the factory. will probably be shipped built already, like many of the anime slipboxes.

The LOTR box is cheap for the type of construction described. Sometimes anime studios sell their empty boxes for $10 each, plus S&H.

I was a little underwhelmed by Champagne's design for the LotR boxes. I like his Kurosawa boxes, but this just seems kind of...blah. I'd much prefer some Alan Lee artwork or something. But I guess you get into rights issues there. :(

Bah, what's the chance of these being sold out after Christmas?

I'm almost 100% sure that i'll be getting ROTK EE for Christmas so I don't want to run out and buy it now and of course since I'm living out of an igloo next to my ice fishing hole, I can't order the thing online, so have to wait to get my hands on it before i can order....

**sigh**

First thing is that I really don't think they are going to sell out any time soon. Second, you don't need to have the DVD to order this. It does not ask you for anything from it.

On a similar note, is anyone concerned that the Minas Morgul companion piece (and Aragorn's Crown) you can buy if you get the ROTK:EE gift set will sell out before Christmas? 8,500 were produced. I wasn't really worried about it until I read this (http://www.theonering.net/perl/newsview/6/1103305948).

I ordered my Minas Morgul piece as soon as I got the coupon out of the box. Hopefully, it won't sell out until all those who want it can get one.

Just ordered mine and no problems. Received my receipt via e-mail in about 1 minute!
I ordered mine, and got the confirmation page in the browser "You will receive your slipcase in 8-10 weeks", but I never got any kind of email confirmation. I hope that doesn't mean my order was lost in the shuffle.

I'm so paranoid at this point that I asked "Santa" if maybe he (aka: my wife) could see his way clear to open up the box and pass along the code ASAP. Man I'm pathetic.

Actually, no. Becky's my ex-girlfriend from years ago. I've just been too lazy to get my handle changed...Plus it's a nice reminder of how much better I have it now. ;)

Oh, and problem solved regarding Minas Morgul:

I ordered it. Nice of New Line to offer this.

I actually find this funny .. in a cynical way. Just emailed a friend and included within is a subtotal of all money I've spent on the LOTR series, considering movies in house (some more than once), regular edition DVDs and extended, not including rentals considering that I couldn't wait to see it again until the extended were released ... and my total is $104.50. Add a few more for rentals.

That being said, I am grateful with Newline's offering and almost could expect a step further with a free poster or something. But then again, who am I to complain? I suppose I'm really not. I'd easily spend another hundred bux for the return value the Lord of the Rings trilogy has given me .....

Can't wait for the case ....

I've been busy and forgot to order Minas Morgul. That is, until I saw the latest sideshow newsletter in my inbox tonight. Fewer than 100 of these remain. Less now that I've ordered mine. So if you want it you better hurry.

I just ordered the box and quickly received a confirmation number. I think this is great of New Line to do; my only worry is I would hate for people who don't own the DVDs to buy up a bunch just to sell them for a profit on eBay. Now, I don't think New Line should require proof of purchase to get the box, but I can see many people ordering multiple boxes using different addresses and people who don't have the movies buying the boxes to make a couple of bucks. That only means that some other people who want the box and own the actual films might not get a chance to own it. But we'll see how it ends up turning out. And I'll be selfish for a second and say at least I was able to get more order through.

Did you read my post on page 4?? I edited it and made the addition for your benefit. Order it and put the shipping address as your friend in California. Call or e-mail your CC company and list that address as an "alternate shipping address" with them and you will have no problems. Depending on your CC company, you can either list the alternate address as "one time only" or "multiple". Whenever these kinds of deals come along I use my friend's address.

True but to me the bigger issue was for the Minas Morgul deal. No proof of purchase required on these. Watch out for these easily showing up on ebay and people easily making double their money ($75).

I certainly feel lucky and thankful to have gotten mine. It's a shame that so many people will have this unfortunate surprise waiting for them on Christmas Day. I could have very easily been one of them. If Sideshow had truly wanted everyone to have a chance at MM and really wanted to reward people for buying the gift set, they should have used individualized codes. But of course, that would have cost considerably more. But using a simple code like "morgul" ensures that anyone with rudimentary Google skills could uncover the code and get MM without buying the set.

The upside is they're offering the Helm's Deep and Golden Hall environments at a substantial discount (you can get either for the same price you'd pay for Minas Morgul). Personally, I'd be just as happy with one of those. They're actually a better value, as they're bigger and only 4,000 of each was produced (as compared to 8,500 for MM).

But Minas Morgul is the matching companion for Minas Tirith. They form a pair of bookends.
