Playwright Tom Stoppard's Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead is finally making its Region 1 DVD debut from Image Entertainment. The 1990 film, a clever twist on Shakespeare's Hamlet told from the perspective of the two witless supporting players, arrives on March 22nd with a 1.85:1 anamorphic transfer, Dolby Digital stereo audio and extensive interviews with Stoppard and stars Gary Oldman, Tim Roth and Richard Dreyfuss. Retail is $24.99.

I saw this performed locally and it was awesome. The image quality was amazing... Anyway, I saw some of it on VHS around the same. I'm definitely looking forward to this.

This is going to be a great month for me, three titles I've been waiting forever for are coming out, Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead, To Be Or Not To Be (The Jack Benny version), and Bringing Up Baby... I think in one month that covers all of the movies I want on DVD that haven't been released...

My wife had actually never heard of this, and she's a big Branagh Shakespeare fan. This'll make a nice surprise gift.

Yes! I was considering getting the R2 w/out extras as well. This is one of my most-looked-forward-to releases.

About damn time this film sees a R1 release. Here's hoping it doesn't get delayed.
