With so much pastiche regarding show in this post-modern era, I would like to get a sample of this show but do not want to dish out for the full season box sets. Image also has 5 volumes of 'best of' sets. I want to pick one up but want to know which one contains the best episodes.

- Sick Boy and the Sitter, The (10/3/1961)
- Big Max Calvada (11/20/1963)
- Coast-to-Coast Big Mouth (9/15/1965)
- Dear Sally Rogers (2/23/1966

Best of The Dick Van Dyke Show, The - Volume 2 (1962-1964)
- Where Did I Come From? (1/3/1962)
- That's My Boy??? (9/25/1963)
- It May Look Like a Walnut! (2/6/1963)
- October Eve (4/8/1964)

Best of The Dick Van Dyke Show, The - Volume 3 (1962-1965)
- 100 Terrible Hours (5/5/1965)
- Uhny Uftz (9/29/1965)
- Never Bathe on Saturday (3/31/1965)
- Secret Life of Buddy and Sally, The (11/28/1962)

Best of The Dick Van Dyke Show, The - Volume 4 (1961-1964)
- Oh How We Met the Night That We Danced (10/31/1961)
- My Blonde-Haired Brunette (10/10/1961)
- 4½ (11/04/1964)
- Alan Brady Show Goes to Jail, The (11/11/1964)

Best of The Dick Van Dyke Show, The - Volume 5 (1962-1963)
- What's in a Middle Name? (11/07/1962)
- Curious Thing About Women, The (1/10/1962)

They're all equally good although if I had to pick one volume I would suggest Volume 2. Some of the best writing ever in a sitcom can be found in these episodes.

Trust me, Yakuza is right on. You will end up wanting the season sets. Aside from the episodes, the voluminous bonus features will keep you entertained for hours.

The DVDs for this show serve as a model for how classic TV shows should be presented on DVD.

If you really only want one set, then I agree that volume 2 is the one to get. Not only do you get the controversial "Where Did I Come From?", but you also get "It May Look Like a Walnut!", considered by many (including DVD himself) to be the series' best episode.
