Mallrats 10th anniversery - September 20th

from the viewaskew.com website
So funny that you mention this, because I just went into Universal yesterday to work out the details of the "Mallrats" 10th Anniversary Edition DVD. We were talking about doing another ArcLight Screening/Q&A which we'd shoot out here in L.A., but as I was driving home, I was thinking "Maybe we can go to the Eden Prairie Mall and hold the screening/q&A..."
i'd like a remastered original cut of the movie (that entire subplot that was cut), and maybe outtakes, and put some of the tv version lines in. (almost all of jay's lines were dubbed by another actor.

I would certainly get this if it came out, and it looks optimistic. I'm guessing sales of Clerks X did so well that the studio is amiable towards a Mallrats SE.

In fact, the studio was planning on (or discussing) doing it before the 'Clerks' disc was released. At first, Kevin Smith wasn't involved, but when he heard about it, he called them up, reasoning that he'd rather be involved (even if it is a double-dip) than leave it up to the studio.

Being Universal they likely won't add jack shit to it, but just add some stupid new title like "Stink Palm Edition" or some other non-sense...

That's kind of what I was thinking... I mean the current release has all the cut material for the alternate sotryline (albeit not edited in, which would be nice). I guess I'm just not sure what they might add considering what a good release the original is. New commentary I'm sure... who knows.

Three things off-hand:
- a second disc, to spread the extras out onto, allowing for a better transfer. (This one doesn't matter so much to me, but I figure they'll do it.)
- chapter stops in the deleted scenes; it's over an hour long, with no stops, no individual scene selection
- some kind of extra related to the TV-edited version; I'm pretty sure this has been mentioned on the View Askew website as a likely extra. Probably not the whole movie, just a little short feature with all the funniest changes or something.

There's also, apparently, an MTV "Mallrats" special, but that might be tough rights-wise.

I'd buy it if there is a fair amount of new stuff. It's probably my least favorite of the group but it still has some of the best lines of all the Jersey films.

I'd buy it and go to the secret stash event that would result in the release of this X edition.

I like the movie more than most, but I'm perfectly contempt with the version I've got. It's got more than enough bonus material for my liking, I don't mind the transfer and I thought most of the stuff that was cut was done justifiably so.

This news was mentioned back in August (the search function is your friend), around the time frame Clerks: X came out. When Kevin came out to Vegas to promote the DVD, we asked him about a Mallrats: X DVD. He said since the Clerks: X DVD was selling well, Universal was heavily considering it (especially since they made the CE OOP). Smith said that if he is allowed to go back to do a new DVD, he would like the TV cut on it with commentary.

Mallrats is my second favorite in the series, so I'm definitely looking forward to this.

The packaging should be like the "clerks X" packaging... only that the "X" under the "Mallrats" logo should be a stereogram.

The film had an SRP of $34.99 when the DVD was initially released.

I paid $24 for a brand new copy the moment that sucker hit DVD.

Considering that this is my favorite among all of Kevin Smith's movies, I'm more than happy to double-dip for this one. Mallrats: The Snootchie Bootchies Edition.

If they added a load of good extras i'd buy it again

I'm sure it would probably be called Mallrats X: The "if you like the movie so much why didnt you see it in the theaters" Edition.

Brodie is still my favorite character.

Will definately double dip this when it comes out. Hopefully a 2 or even 3 disc edition would be a big selling point for me. Another feature length making of would be nice (like on Clerks) with a new commentary, and the Q&A is a nice touch (obviously without London, I'm sure).

God, I don't. Did you watch those deleted scenes? They were definitely cut for a reason. 1 solid hour of totally unfunny material. Atrocious. But I'd be up for an X.
