I just missed out on the Coconuts deal so I ended up with the STL and A9 variation for $20.xx. Had to add filler (Spanish-English dictionary for my daughter's class) to get free shipping.
The BB deal looks good if you're planning to buy something else at BB but you have to factor in tax at least. Lucky if your state has no tax.

Coconuts has now screwed up two preorders of mine. I have my ROTK preordered with them, but I don't expect to see it based on prior experience. Dude, I feel your pain. i could have written the same exact post....two preorders screwed up...two weeks after the movies were released and they still hadn't sent them out....yet, the site said both titles were in-stock. The only thing worst than that was their customer service, which was a series of precomposed responses to my specific questions.

UPDATE: I spoke with a CSR, he said qualifying date of purchase is when the credit card is charged. That means that when the item is shipped and our cc's are charged is the date of purchase.
As we all know, this is one person and he could be wrong...that it could be the date we provide the cc info and place the order is the date of purchase. I still wanted to pass this info on to you. As always, this is at your own risk and YMMV...yadda,yadda,yadda

The rebate form says:
2. coconuts.com order confirmation email and packing slip dated 11/1/04-12/27/04.
I read that as the email also has to be dated no earlier than 11/1/04, else why even say it? There is no way there would be a shipping date that early.

I don't think I'll even bother with the $7 rebate, unless I don't have to cut anything out of the packaging. Technically it can be read that the order confirmation email is independent of the packing slip part, i.e. only the packing slip must be dated 11/1-12/27.

I couldn't agree more. I got in the LOTR:ROTK $17.xx deal, but expect little from them. They dropped my Seinfeld orders due to "unexpected demand," even though they were in stock and available. They oh-so-helpfully recommended cancelling and re-ordering, but of course without the 15% off, free shipping, and not in time for the $20 total in rebates. I have had two other orders with them previously and both had problems to some degree as well, neither of which were resolved satisfactorily.
Coconuts is easily the worst online site I have ever dealt with. Their customer service is non-existent. Regardless of whether or not I ever see LOTR:ROTK from them I will never purchase from them again, and I recommend to anyone else who will listen the same.
It bears repeating: Coconuts.com: Worst on line retailer. Ever.

technically, the retailer is in the right and would be able to provide proof that they honored their end of the contract.
Ppl think that they can always win with a chargeback investigation but that's not always the case. In the end, they are screwing the retailer cuz each chargeback investigation costs like $20 for the retailer.

For the Sears ad, the low price, means simply that, low price. It's not like Best Buy, Circuit City and Target ads.
For example, the Star Wars Trilogy was listed as low price and it was next to Mean Girls. The Seinfeld sets were next to Harry Potter.
My guess is that they'll have it for $24.99 but they do price match.

From my experience, Sears will definitely honor a price match and coupon on the same transaction. I do it all the time, and get some amazing deals that way. And if your purchase is just a little bit short of $25.00, the coupon should still work fine. Heck, I've never even had to take an ad to the store. I just tell them the price, where it's on sale at, and they honor it. They usually don't even call the store to verify the price unless it's more than a few dollars difference.

If you still have any leftover Madden Coupons, the best deal you can get it right is to get it at Best Buy:
Regular Version = $22.99 = $18.39 after Madden Coupon
Giftset Version = $49.99 = $39.99 after Madden Coupon
Box Set containing all 3 EEs = $72.99 = $58.39 after Madden Coupon ($19.46 each)

I don't want to get in the middle of something, but I just want to be clear. Are you saying that you purposely didn't follow the instructions on the rebate form, yet somehow it is their fault for not honoring the rebate? Hell, getting your rebate when you do follow the rules can be a crapshoot, lord help you if you don't.
I had purchased box sets from companies before that always came with a seperate slip with the upc on it. I thought this would be the same way with coconuts. When the dvd showed up and it didn't have this I didn't want to cut up my box, so I wrote them an Email asking them if they could do one of the following:
1. Credit me the $15
2. Allow the rebate to go through without the UPC
3. Provide me with instructions for returning the DVD (since without the rebate it was no longer the best price).
I sent probably 15 Emails to them over a 40 day period and they never contacted me once. That's why I'm disputing the charge. They are more than welcome to have the DVD's back if they would just contact me and tell me how to send it (especially since it's open - I had to open it to see if there was another UPC in it). The 30 day return policy passed while I was trying to get an answer from them. Is it a big deal? Probably not. I'm just trying to let them know that they have an unhappy customer and since they apparently never read or address their Emails, disputing the CC charge seemed the only way to get their attention.

so, -do you have to use a specific credit card for that Sears coupon, -I don't have the card sponsoring it. Also, it says something in the fine print about copying it, -Is it acceptable if you print it out?

The sears coupon is supposed to be printed out. I used it with a non-Citibank Visa with no problem. However, it didn't scan and the cashier had to enter the code directly.

The Sears.com site says this is a "website exclusive--not available in stores." If that's true, the coupon is worthless for it.

Sounds great i'm going to pricematch BB's price of $22.99 so i'll get it for $17.99 with the coupon, i'm also gonna price match Kmart's Top Gun for $12.99, so that puts me over the $25.00.

The best deal (if you have Fry's nearby) is to pricematch the Fry's ad at Best Buy and then use the Madden coupon. Final cost is $16.79 (more if Best Buy will pricematch 110% of the difference like they claim will) before tax.
As far as the Sears coupon goes, I've used credit cards that aren't mentioned on the coupon with no problem. And as far as it being a "website exclusive--not available in stores", not in my experience of using three of those coupons. The clerks happily accepted the coupons on my in-store purchases. Actually, I don't see where it states it is a "website exclusive--not available in store." The top of the page says: "Simply print this coupon and bring it to a Sears store to get your discount." Do you, perhaps, go to the wrong link?

I just got back from sears. They had it for $24.99. I didn't want to wait in line to see if I had to get something to push it over $25 to use the coupon, so I picked up something cheap, and used the $5 off coupon with no problem.

Nope, my Sears had it for $24.99 plus get this they pulled it from the floor! I asked for one and a clerk said "oh yeah we just put those in the back" and another clerk (aka nazi clerk) gave him an ice cold glare, anyway I said I'd like to buy one, so the "cool" clerk went in the back for a minute and came back with one and handed it to me and said "here you go" I asked how much they were selling it for he scanned it and it came up $24.99. At this point I told him I was going to price match it from Fry's for $20.99 so I handed him the ad from Sunday's LA Times he said no problem and that it was a good price, at this point the "nazi clerk" came over and boy was she PISSED! She said to the "cool" clerk you need a managers approval for that. He called the manager over and she (manager) swiped her card and walla I was on my way. Plus it automatically gave me an additional 10% off the difference, out the door with tax came to $22.29 not bad.

I checked with one Sears and they didn't have ROTK or I, Robot. However, I tried the other local Sears and they had both of those titles. I used the Sears coupon and while the clerk had to enter it by keyboard, they took it at 24.99. My final cost was 21.67.

I went to Sears today for the first time to buy some dvds. They had ROTK for $24.99 and this store also had pulled their copies from the floor and had them behind the counter. I priced matched the Fry's ad and got the EE set for $20.59. I was also going to buy Collateral and use the $5 off coupon but they didn't have any copies of Collateral. The clerk told me for some reason they did not get any copies in and that he would honor the $5 off coupon later on since I bought ROTK. I checked sears.com and it says that Collateral is $15.99 and a Web exclusive and that this item is not avaliable in Sears stores. Why?? Does sears not carry rated R films?

My local Wal-mart are idiots. They only ordered about one third the amount of ROTK EEs than they did for I,Robot or Collateral. They sold out within a couple hours today.
The display case was the "same size" as the I,Robot and Collateral cases but they FORGOT that the ROTK DVD was three times larger, thus fewer units. DUH!

OK, I went the Sears route with the $5 off $25 coupon that h8red linked on page 4. My local Sears had two copies of ROTK on a center aisle display. I took one to a cashier and asked if I needed to find another item since I was a penny short of $25. He said "Let's give it a try" and was able to get it to work.
So $19.99 + tax is a nice deal.

Strangely enough the ROTK:EE was in the back storeroom at my local Sears, also. It was not out on display. While I was there, I observed that whenever someone wanted a copy, the clerk had to go to the storeroom to get the exact number of copies needed for the sale--she would not bring any extras out to put on display. Weird.
Anyway, pricematching came to $20.59 and then I pricematched "Mary Poppins" from Circuit City and then used my $5 off coupon. So, I ended up getting ROTK:EE for $18.09 and Mary Poppins for $15.29.

Maybe they're aware of the price match, and are thinking if people don't see it, they'll leave, and they're only selling it to people that ask for it?
You have to remember, they're owned by Kmart now. :hump:

I preordered my LOTR RotK EE set from BN.com back in October for $27.98 - $10 coupon - Free Shipping = $17.98 shipped. It is scheduled to arrive at my door today. I believe that the coupon I used was valid for $10 of $25 or something and they had a promotion for free UPS shipping (even on preorders!). I figured $17.98 for the LOTR RotK EE set seemed like a great deal to me at the time and sounds like it still is...

When I went to buy the Star Wars boxset, I tried pricematching a Fry's ad at Walmart. After much discussion, even with one cashier telling the other that she's personally done such a pricematch, they called the manager, who brought out a list of their competitors and told me that Fry's was not on the list.
Still, YMMV as to what cashier you get, as always.

Yes, I actually had the Fry's ad in hand when I bought my copy at Sears for $19.99 using the $5 off coupon. I thought about trying a pricematch but I didn't want a potential hassle and I really didn't want to find another item to push the price above $25. It was one of those risk/reward deals. :)
And I forgot to thank h8red for posting the link to the Sears $5 off coupon in this thread.

no need to thank me. I just ripped it from another source (I forgot where otherwise I'd give credit). I tried Sears. There was no signs of the EE set anywhere so I asked a ~15 yo employee where it was. He pointed me to the theatrical release. I explained that I wanted the box set but he said that's all they had. I tried again this morning and talked to someone else hoping that they would be able to find a copy. No luck. So I eventually went to Best Buy and used Best Buy 10% off coupon (http://images.bestbuy.com/BestBuy_US/en_US/images/global/promos/10percpn.pdf) . The thing is that I don't think they are actually supposed to use it on the DVD because its on sale. The clerk just manually overrode the 10% off. So I think it was ~$21.50 out the door

Yeah. Especially since ROTK:EE is featured in the Sears sales circular for the week. I imagine that most of Sears' sales are from people who just go there to buy their merchandise without pricematching it somewhere else. (In other words, pricematched merchandise probably accounts for a very small percentage of their sales, so people like us couldn't have depleted their available stock so quickly.) Somebody goofed by not ordering enough stock to last the entire week of the sale.

I went by there is morning around 10:15AM to pick it up. I double-checked the price with a cashier and sure enough it was $24.99. She rang it up but took off 10% and then took off the $5 coupon! I walked out with it for $17.50 plus tax!
Seems they were having a big Saturday sale this morning where everything was 10% (even sale prices) before 10am. Either she was just really nice or the Xmas season has just worn her down. Either way I walked out a very happy camper!
