Wow...anyone want to do an STL on the Margaret Cho boxset? I can't help but think that that's an error. And to knock it down another $.90 is just icing. ;)

I already added myself to the STL listing for it. Anyone else?

Edit: I also placed my order to discover that it didn't offer me to STL. And I ordered mine with Return of the King.

P.S. - If you are lucky enough to still get A9, go for it. I can't get my to work again.

Great price for Margaret Cho - The Collection! Revolution alone costs the same price and the Collection contains all 3 films.

Same thing with Broadway & Hollywood: The Songwriters (Box Set)!

BTW - There is no STL option for these titles.

THANKS OP!

Thanks, I ordered Wire In the Blood and The Margret Cho Set. Amazon didn't display an option for stl though. wonder if it is because of the already deep discount?

Cool, Thanks for the post. I ordered Dinner for Five, Margaret Cho, and Traffik. My order did offer STL but I didn't see any requests in the forum, or on the STL pages. Maybe someone else can get it to work.

Same here (except I already had Traffik). I guess I should've looked here first, but then, if we were all worried about another $1--that's just greedy! ;)

But STL is working for these titles.

I was tempted to order Traffik, having heard so much about it, but I read that some of the foreign language dialogue is dubbed on the US release. Maybe I'll look into getting it from another region.

I ordered three:

-Dinner For Five: Season 1
-Margaret Cho Collection
-Wire in the Blood: The Complete First Season

I couldn't use STL for each three and still get free shipping though. It ended up being about 70 cents short or something like that, maybe even less. So I got STL on two, and the other I just bought at the full sale price.

I should mention the trick I did to get free shipping. Since most of these titles are $8.09 with STL, ordering 3 will just miss getting free shipping (by 73 cents!). So I deleted one item from my cart and re-added it manually (without the STL discount). So I paid 90 cents more for one, but I got free shipping. So if you only want 3 titles, there ya go!

I had the STL option, but did anyone get the 1.57% discount? I tried using that that search function over and over, but never got the A2 discount to appear...

Actually, the joke's on you, because free shipping applies to any order that is $25 or above BEFORE discounts. I know it says on the screen that you need to add more, but you don't. Try it and see.

Nothing personal, of course. I just really wanted to use the expression "the joke's on you." :) Hope this information is helpful for everyone for the future.

You should give Amazon filler a try: http://www.filleritem.com/ . It'll be more than $.03 but the shipping savings will make up for it. :)

Why are the Jospeh Campbells so cheap? I look at Joseph Campbell - Mythos and it was marked down over 90.00. Is it a price mistake or justsomething that no one was buying?

Jah-Wren Ryel
12-09-04, 02:07 AM
I already own the Campbells, paid like $50 each over a year ago, but at these prices I just had to get a second set as a gift. They are great titles, especially for star wars fans.

But, there is something weird about these prices across the board anyway. Given its history, don't be surprised if Amazon lets it run for a couple of days and then comes back with "Oops, sorry, we made a boo-boo and now you have to pay the full price if you really want it."

I don't know what is up at Amazon, but I'm loving it. I ordered the two CYE sets and Da Ali G Show last week, and I got all of that yesterday. It took right at a week for my order to go through, for them to pack it, for them to ship it, and for it to get to me.

Well, now they've done it again. I placed two orders with them last night, LAST NIGHT. The following has already shipped:

1 of: Dinner for Five - Season 1
1 of: Margaret Cho Collection (I'm the One That I Want / Notorious C.H.O. / Revolution)
1 of: Wire in the Blood - The Complete First Season (The Mermaids Singing / Shadows Rising / Justice Painted Blind)

And the following is listed as "shipping soon":

1 of: Joseph Campbell - Mythos
1 of: Traffik - Miniseries
1 of: Joseph Campbell and the Power of Myth
1 of: Broadway & Hollywood Legends - The Songwriters Collection (Kander & Ebb / Alan Jay Lerner / E.Y. "Yip" Harburg / Sheldon Harnick / Burton Lane / Mitch

Once again, two huge thumbs up to Amazon so far. After countless subpar/horrible experiences with them, they are finally coming through for me.

I've also noticed that they are sending these items (at least the order that has indeed shipped already) to me via UPS instead of USPS as they have done for all of my past orders.

the same thing happened to me. In the A9 FAQ on Amazon.com it says that you have to search at least every few weeks to keep the discount active. I had lost it for one order but I did a few searches hoping that it would come back. It came back a day or two later after those searches that I did.

well, i got in on this. many thanks to the OP (Classic Films)!

I didn't get the A9 discount, and I even tried to do a couple of searches using that search engine (lol) to see if it would come up right before the order, but no dice. i tried to be all crafty, but i guess i'll just have to use it about once every week. (I tend to go on Amazon to read reviews way more than once a week, anyway.)

I bought:

-Dinner For Five: Season 1
-Margaret Cho Collection
-Joseph Campbell: Mythos
-Joseph Campbell and the Power of Myth

Wondering whether or not Wire in the Blood, Traffik, and Russian Ark are good blind buys.

I sent Amazon an angry email asking for my money back on the shipping, at the very least.

I got lucky, I put it in my cart with a couple of Christmas presents a few hours ago, but did not click the confirm order button. When you posted that I opened another window to confirm it had jumped in price. I quickly hit the confirm order button and it accepted my order without changing to the new price. $8.09 with share the love.

I had share the love for Mythos and several others, did not take advantage of it, I will probably regret that.

I placed my order yesterday, and the order status page says that my dvds are expected to ship on the 10th. I used free supersaver shipping. At the risk of not getting them for the price listed, anyone think I should switch shipping methods? I've never changed the status of an order after I placed it, and before it ships, but I guess you can do that with Amazon.

It's not a major concern, but these dvds are at a great price (especially the Joseph Campbell ones), and I have a feeling -- since they haven't been shipped -- that I'll be a victim of the dreaded Amazon "cancellation" notice.

I had a feeling these might be big price mistakes and ordered multiple copies of several titles. A copy of each for my collection and the rest to be used for Christmas gifts ;-) Hopefully Amazon honors my order!

Slingshot -- for the Mythos set at least I don't think changing the shipping method will help much. It's got like a week long ship time listed. If the order makes it that far I don't think it will matter if it's overnighted or free shipping. Maybe if you ordered something that's in stock and ready to ship today it will help...

12-11-04, 12:52 AM
I think that if youve entered the ordered and they give you a ship date, they really have to honor it...That would be horrible business if they cancelled orders at that point. My ship date for both Campbell sets is the 15th, I really hope they wont pull a cancellation, and if they do I'll make sure to send an angry email. The fact that they were at that price for so long makes it tough for them to claim it was a misprice. Had this been a ten minute website error maybe they could cancel, but this was up fro long enough with enough orders that it would be a big problem if they cancelled.

edit: as a followup to their shipping mistake, where I recieved my order for 2 Dinner for Five's in two days instead of next day, they promptly refunded me for the 12.93 shipping charge, so right now they're on my good side. Recieved the DVDs today.

A huge THANK YOU to the original poster of this thread! Got many gifts as well as some sets (Thick As Thieves, for example) that I had wanted for a while but had balked at the price (even with the DDD 20% off sale). This thread made it possible to get some fantastic deals on great quality DVDs. Managed to place orders & get shipping confirmation for everything except MYTHOS (that's what I get for not checking back and reading all the posts). Oh, well...hard to complain when I got 99% of order filled. Thanks again for the post...and thank you, Amazon & DVDTalk!!

You must be new to the bargains forum. Amazon has a history of letting "price mistakes" run for days and then cancelling orders just as they are scheduled to ship. Some people, myself included, believe that such tactics are essentially loss-leaders without the loss. Amazon denies any such intenions, of course but it has happened enough times over the last few years to be an established pattern at the very least.

Huge thanks to the OP. I almost bought both Joseph Campbell sets during the last DDD sale, and almost ordered Wire in the Blood from Amazon.co.uk during my annual R2 binge. Glad I held off on all of these.

I ordered Mythos before this deal even hit the Bargain forum. I guess Amazon doesn't put you in any kind of first-in, first-out queue for filling orders. At least this wasn't a Christmas present or anything.

The original poster was referring to this website:
http://dvdpricesearch.com/

You can use it to search for specific titles to find the best price on the web, but also on the home page it lists low price deals every day for several diferent websites including Amazon. The OP just copied the Amazon deals for that day and created a thread.

Wow. That was odd. I typed in "www _ dvdpricesearch _ com" as the first url, but somehow it got readjusted to the link it shows now. Did a mod alter that? Just curious. The first link is just a link to the pricegrabber website (which is the second link I posted). Hmm.

Anyway...yeah, www _ dvdpricesearch _ com is the way to go.

It's been awhile now, but how many other people who ordered Mythos still have not recieved it? I got in on this deal early, and while I got both Power of Myth and Dinner for Five a month ago, the shipping date on Mythos is estimated between Dec. 18 and January 30th for me. This is ridiculous, and if this never ends up shipping, I'm giving Amazon hell. Is there any possibility they would give me credit to amazon worth as much as some of the marketplace sellers currently are listing Mythos at? That deal for 8.99 was incredible, and something tells me they dont want to lose money on this and are not ordering any more to ship.

I still haven't received Mythos or the Margaret Cho Collection. I'm actually not holding my breath that they'll get them back in stock. If you look at their site, they don't even have either for sale (only on Amazon Marketplace).

They might give you a gift certificate for like $5 but definitely not one for $50+.

Well, I checked Wellspring, Mythos' publishers site, and they are still selling Mythos, albeit Mythos I & II, for 99, which is the price of the Mythos dvd. I'm going to email and ask why if the dvd is still available to buy from the publisher my order wont be honored. That's bad business, and though it was pointed out earlier in this thread that they are known for doing it, I'll be sure to let amazon know that if they don't come through with this order that I wont be using their website again, and I will advise friends against it as well.

I ordered Mythos on December 8th, it was shipped on January 5th, and I finally received it on January 7th. After the delay of nearly a month, I didn't think I'd ever see it, so I was suprised to check Amazon one day and see that it was on its way. Hopefully everyone out there still waiting will also receive it.

BTW, there is no way Amazon made money on that order. I used Super Saver shipping, and they shipped my order in 4 different shipments, two of which they sent just before Christmas using Next Day Air! My order included Mythos, Margaret Cho, Power of Myth, Russian Ark, and Wire in the Blood at $8.09 apiece with STL. What a deal!

Might you not want to wait until your order is actually cancelled before doing this?

There's no indication yet that they aren't going to honor this (my Margaret Cho just shipped last week, so they're still getting to these). Sending an irate e-mail right now doesn't seem like it'll serve much purpose.

I too think we ought to wait until they cancel the orders before sending in any protest emails. Sending one now might be counter-productive in that it might make them aware of how much money they are going to lose with all the outstanding orders of Mythos, causing them to cancel our orders.

I complained to Amazon and got the following reply:

We are very sorry for the delay in completing the item "Joseph
Campbell - Mythos" in your order.

In looking into the situation, I see that the shipment of your order
has been delayed by a system error. Our technical specialists are
working hard to correct the problem so that we can ship your order
as soon as possible.

To help compensate you for this unexpected change, I have upgraded
the method of shipment for this order to "Two-Day Shipping". There
is of course no additional charge for this.

We now expect to ship the item "Joseph Campbell - Mythos" by the new
date listed on your ccount : March 07, 2005.
