This was on DVDpricesearch.com's front page last week - Jeremiah Season 1 (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp?product_id=2489449). I ordered it on the 30th and it arrived today. I think the description on the webpage has changed since I placed the order and it no longer comes up in a DVDpricesearch.com search. But, it is the same walmart product id# that I ordered (bookmarked it) and the picture is still the same today as it was when I placed the order.
So, there is probably a good chance you'll get the religious movie and not the tv series, but if there is a free-shipping coupon available, then there is no risk since you can return it at a local B&M. Even without free shipping, you could probably print the page out with the image of the box and get them to refund the shipping too because it is an error on their end, I doubt that any walmart CSRs will be able to differentiate between the TV series and a movie of the same name based on the description alone.
Also, despite being filmed and shown in widescreen on showtime, this box set is foolscreen. I opted not to pay real money for a foolscreen crop job, but at ~$14 the dealmeister within me could no longer hold out -- cheapest real price is $52.30 from DDD (DVDsoon doesn't count in my book).

Walmart has had the occasional deal (see the Gormanghast thread that pops up again and again ;)) however in this case, given the description
Starring: Oliver Reed, Leonor Varela, Patrick Dempsey, Vincent Regan, Klaus Maria Brandauer, Michael Cronin
Director: Harry Winer
Edition: Full Frame
Rating: Not Rated
Run Time: 91 minutes
Studio: Vidmark Entertainment
Description
Jeremiah tells the story of the prophet who abandons his family and the woman he loves in order to relay God?s message in Jerusalem. Although he is persecuted and branded as a traitor for warning others of the destruction of the Holy City, he continues fearlessly with his mission. When his prophecy is fulfilled, he experiences first-hand Jerusalem?s destruction by the Babylonians.

Also, despite being filmed and shown in widescreen on showtime, this box set is foolscreen.
The first season wasn't shown on regular showtime in widescreen, though the second season was. Apparently it was shown that way on their high def channel. In any case, most people saw this show in fullscreen and by all indications that is the OAR.
Not meaning to jack the thread, but I didn't want anyone to pass this up because they thought the video was altered for this release.
Great show BTW.

Well, I for one can now say - THIS WORKS!!!!
Like Jah-Wren, I saw this initially on the DVDPriceSearch website as a "lower $" informational. Later on that day, upon refreshing/reloading the page, the link itself was gone. I searched for the title & bookmarked the link - waiting for it to come "In Stock" as it was OOS.
A few days later, it showed up as being In Stock & even let me add it to my cart. Only problem was that was as far as I could get - no checkout was possible ("Problem with an item in your cart" error).
I kept watching the site from time-to-time (like Cary Grant a while back) & lo-&-behold it showed up again this past Saturday as In Stock. Only difference this time was that I could actually checkout!!! Anyways, today the package arrived & it IS the Season 1 of Jeremiah - just like the pic. Apparently, the only thing right on the page is the pic. ;)
Not bad for $15.28 shipped.
Keep trying folks!!!

Well, I clicked on the link again, and sho'nuff it was "in stock" again, like Brent wrote. However, while I was deciding whether or not I wanted to purchase this (in deciding, I started to read the overwhelmingly favorable feedback on Amazon), I came to the conclusion that it was worth a blind buy purchase. (Especially when it's going for $71 on Amazon!!).
When I had clicked on the "add to cart" link, it read that it was "not available at this time." I guess I had waited too long. I clicked to the previous page, and it read "Out of Stock" again. Hopefully I can get to it quickly, the next time it read In Stock.

Man, the more I've read the reviews the more I'm sure I would've liked this show. This is going to be one of those shows where I'll probably always look out for a bargain now. The problem is, at around $60-70, a bargain would probably be $40. :(
Oh, well. You win some, you lose some. I'll be interested in hearing what some of you, who bought this as a blind buy, think of this show.
And in the meantime, I'll be checking every so often to see if it's in stock again. Good luck to all those that got a order in, and here's hoping you get the right one. (Er, the one with Luke and Malcolm, anyway.) :)

Jeremiah Season 1 is in stock again. I'm surprised they haven't corrected this yet. I was tempted to order more than 1, so that I can gift it to someone else, but I'm hoping someone else who wanted this as bas as I did gets in on this.
Although I got an order confirmation number, I won't be rest assured until I get a shipping confirmation email. And even then, not until I receive the package and get the actual boxset, and not the Biblical movie.
Good luck to everyone else who tries from here on.

SlingshotBandit
12-13-04, 02:24 AM
Hey, brucelee.
You're right, it's sold out again. I wonder if it's a glitch in their system (saying it was in stock again), or if they only had one available, and after just making this purchase right, it sold out yet again.
Or, perhaps, a few other people ordered right after mine (maybe after reading my post) and beat you to it. I would keep checking back though, just in case.
(Sidebar: I've been such a bargain bastard ever since being a member of dvd talk, but I've also spent waaaay more money than I ever thought I would on dvds.) :(
Since I didn't get an order confirmation email, rather just an order confirmation number after I completed the order with payment, I'll have to keep an eye out for an email from walmart.

I saw the same info as the OP did on DVDPriceSearch, I just was unable to order it until it actually came "In Stock". Which turned out to be after the OP had gotten in an order - apparently. I wasn't going to post until I'd received it & Jah-Wren actually received their copy first.

Well, Christmas is around the corner. I hope not, but I agree with you since this was the longest amount of time that this title has stayed in stock. Since, some have received the correct dvd already and the web page hasn't been altered I can only have faith that they received a large shipment of the Jeremiah: Season 1 DVDs. I guess we'll find out next week.
There does appear to be a pattern to this madness though. The DVDs were showing up back in stock around 1-2am ~ every two days.
EDIT:
The Jeremiah: Bible Series DVD is actually listed under a different item number (1109965 vs. 2489449). Watch it turn out to be that an employee updated the info for the wrong Jeremiah DVD, hence the great deal.

Given the size of the set. Your envelope package (method used by WM) should be at least 1" THICK if it contains the right set. If the package is slender - like a std. keepcase - just refuse receipt of it.
Hopefully, everything will turn out ok. Most should know by Tues. or Wed. at the latest since WM usually ships priority.

Then again, who knows with WM?? That & this IS the holiday season - Priority becomes 1st class, 1st class becomes media mail & media mail becomes lost. Simple progression.

I have a feeling it's all the version we don't want. It's odd that they cancelled previous orders, like mine and duganrm's, and then got more in stock a few hours later.
At least Amazon has good reviews (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00004VVOW/) for the Biblical version. :D

it's also possible their system screwed up and took more orders than they had in stock, and their system automatically cancelled the order instead of placing it on backorder, not anticipating on more stock coming in ..or maybe they've just got some weird ass setup where if a item is popular they don't allow order after order after order..it goes 'out of stock' for "X" amount of hours then comes back in stock...but who knows really what is happening or why ..or what the latest batch will be...

I received mine yesterday (Saturday afternoon) and it was the real Jeremiah (the Biblical version). :( Sorry, folks.....
that I had to kid around like that. :p
It was the Malcolm Jamal Warner/Luke Perry one. Corners were slightly dented, but probably how you'd see some of the ones on store shelves looking like.
Thanks again to the OP. If it's not sold out by tomorrow night, I might buy another as a present for a co-worker.

This going in and out of stock is pretty common with obscure wallyworld deals.
I think it is the online equivalent of their $5.50 dump bins. Just like the mass psychology of digging through a pile of crap to find an OK movie makes it seem like a diamond in the rough, hitting refresh-page a couple of hundred times makes the deal seem even sweeter.

I got my email confimation saying the dvd shipped. So hopefully they shipped the tv series before they realized their mistake. Someone mentioned these dvd's were "Fullscreen" is this true? Because we all know that if the show was show in widescreen (which this was) and the dvd set is FULLSCREEN, the picture will be edited...Fullscreen sucks. I hope it's widescreen...

Yes, it was shot and shown in widescreen. I distinctly remember watching it in letterbox format and having to manually zoom my widescreen tv since it was letterboxed on the standard def channel (high-def was not available from my cable provider at the time). It was part of Showtimes "sci-fridays" series. Re-runs, even in the same week, might have been in foolscreen but the first showing of each episode was definitely widescreen.

I don't doubt that you remember it that way Jah-Wren, but I find it curious that contemporary reviews of the series make no mention of the first season being in widescreen, something that is often mentioned.
In any case, the set is full screen, and quite a bargin at the price you found. Thanks for posting.

Yeah, I see that. The few that slipped thru at first must not have sent up any "red flags". But, the 200+ that slipped thru in the last few days must have really woke 'em up. :D
I suprised that they'd let those 200+ go thru at all?? Remember Monk S1? Course, that was a pre-order at the time.

Those will go up fast once the sellers there realize whats happened at Walmart. Most sellers there undoubtedly got them from Walmart (or had to reduce their prices to compete with those who did).

I think the episodes aired on Showtime in fullscreen, but they aired on Showtime HD in widescreen. Most people probably saw them on regular Showtime, so that might be why the reviews do not mention OAR.

There is no record of that item. If it was mailed recently, information may not yet be available. Please try again later.
But I'm somewhat less worried now that I know they're stalled on updates across the board.

So, has anyone actually started watching this yet? I figure this is not the forum to discuss what people think of dvd shows, but since we have a thread specifically designated for Jeremiah Season 1, why not give some thoughts here and there?
I haven't started watching mine yet, since I'm still wading through the other dvds I've bought. The second half of 2004 have by far been the most costly in terms of dvd spending. I'll get around to this show by mid-January. Just want to know what others think now.

I've gone through the first couple of discs, and it is a pretty decent show. Looks like they have several long-term arcs set up (although from what I hear, they weren't totally resolved in Season 2).
One quirk I think I see is in the opening credits for shows after the pilot. I could swear that some of the shots are squeezed to fit in the 4:3 frame...i.e. faces looking skinnier. Maybe it's just me.
All in all, I like it (especially at the reduced price) and'll probably pick up the second season if it's ever released.

I don't ever remember them "completing" this series - in any fashion. I thought it just disappearred from the line-ups? And, yes, it was a pretty decent post-apocalyptic(?) series.

Although Showtime cancelled the show, I felt that the series concluded in a satisfactory manner in that it didn't leave me wanting more (as Odyssey 5 or the season 4 farscape series finale did). I loved this show (after what I thought was a shaky beginning) and certainly would pick up season 2 if it comes out.

At the time, I think only half of season 2 aired on showtime (and the original creator was no longer involved after the end of season 1 due to "creative differences" with MGM), but I thought I saw something about them running the second half this last fall. I no longer subscribe to cable so I could not verify. The tvtome.com entry probably has the details.
John Sinnott

Actually J. Michael Straczynski was actively involved with the second season. He wrote a lot of the episodes including the final two. He has stated that if there is a third season (which seems very unlikely) he won't be involved.
The last eight episodes of the second season were shown on Showtime last September.
