1080p Front Projector?

Anyone know when the market will have 1080i/p front projectors at an affordable level like under $4K?

You could check out: http://www.projectorcentral.com. They list projectors and their specks.

I think you should have no problem finding a fantastic projector at that price.

Under $4k? Considering they're at the $30k mark right now, I'd say we still have a couple years to go.

Speaking of 1080p projectors...

Did Sony ever come out with the retail model of the unit they were demoing at HT shows last year (or was it early this year)? It had an amazing picture, even very close up. I'm not sure what the technology was, maybe LCoS?

What about the Epson PowerLite Cinema 200+. It does 1080i, 720p, and so on. And it is listed MSRP at $3k, and from what I have seen MSPR is normally discounted heavily.

The original poster is talking about the native resolution of the projector. The native resolution of the Epson Cinema 200 is 720p.

Yep, the Sony did come out, as the Qualia 004. They call it SXRD, but it's the same technology as LCOS and D-ILA.

Thanks!

It has an amazing picture, I preferred it to the $130K Runco I saw at the same time but I can't say for sure because I couldn't A-B it and they had pretty different material playing.

I walked right up to the screen and couldn't really even see any pixels. This is the first projector that got me thinking about giving up on getting a CRT projector. But the bulb cost is pretty high, even though they include a spare with the projector.

I'd like to get the 1080 because once HD-DVD comes out the 720p should be obsolete.

You should check out the JVC offering as well, the HD2K. Very similar to the Sony, but accepts a true 1080p input.

yeah, that 004 is sick. they have it on display at the sony store on madison avenue. they do a side by side demo of lawrence of arabia in blu-ray on one side of their 150" screen (or was it only 130"?) and dvd on the other...and if you didn't know before you knew then that dvd is obsolete. it looked nearly as different as dvd did to vhs. all we need now are blu-ray players (you can import them from japan) and some affordable 1080 projectors...which won't be available for 4k for a couple of years. heck, the replacement bulb costs 3k!

Yeah I hope for Projection's sake we get Blu-Ray. The lower bandwidth HD-DVD format would suffer when you use a projector.
