Remember these Superbits are Region Free
I've never ordered from them before, went to the website to check out what seems like a great deal :)
Question, though: Their website states these are "Region 3" -- I'm not *that* familiar with the region thing (I know U.S. is Region 1, region-free supposed to = can play in any dvd player (?)); can somebody explain what's up? Thanks.
Edit: Another question: Anybody know when they charge you for pre-orders? Can't find anything on the website. Thanks again.

Could they be bootleg?
candyrocket786
12-07-04, 09:45 AM
Their payment gateway charges you immediately.
They are not bootlegs. The titles are marked Region 3,but they will play in Region 1 players. Cdwow had a Superbit sale about year with the Region 3 HK titles.
Koreandvds usually has this sale about once year.

I purchased Black Hawk Down Superbit deluxe and Bram Stoker's Dracula about 6 months ago. Both play in my Panasonic XP30 player. As far as SuperBits go I don't think the regional coding is actually region 3, but region 0.
As far as the bootleg question, mine were not bootlegs. My one experience with the company was pleasant and professional. I would not hesitate to order again. That's why I dropped into this thread to see if there was something to tempt me.

Superbits labeled Region 1 (US & Canada), 3 (HK/Korea/Asia) Or 4 (Brazil) NTSC are coded region 0 making it playable on R1 players.

If I remember correctly from another Koreandvds thread earlier this year, the 2nd disc in the Spider-Man Superbit is not region-free. The extra discs in the Black Hawk Down set (highly recommended) are region-free (or at least 1, 3, and 4).

WRONG. WRONG.
These are NTSC superbits, and while the packaging says R3, they are in fact R1, R3, and R4 (the NTSC regions).
Nor are they bootlegs, but they DO have korean writing on the spines, if that sort of thing bothers you.

Are we sure that they're not bootleg copies? Do you know how to tell the difference between official vs. bootleg? Bootlegs are supposed to be pressed professional like the official ones. Is there an official site from Superbit that stated that they released them to Korea as well?
Can someone please confirm? As a collector, I HATE bootleg copies of movies. Music bootleg is okay since it's rare to find them. :)

If anyone can find it, that thread would answer a lot of the questions that have been and will be posed here. Here's a thread about a koreandvds Superbit sale from February, with posts up through June. Not sure it's the one you were referring to, but it does have a lot of info (237 replies!)...
I ordered in October from koreandvds.com and have not received anything. Their CS haven't responded to me, either. It's a shame too because their prices are great and I had one successful order from them before. I have since disputed the charge on my credit card. It's either their deal or the US postal service. If you order, pay extra for EMS. Regular air mail worked for me before and should have this time since I live in Los Angeles. It should have been from port to port. People shouldn't have to pay more to make sure they receive their orders.

Did you contact the owner via msn instant messenger? Maybe he can clear it up.
I believe after 40 days, they consider it "LOST" and should be able to reissue another.
I know it's rare, but there's been one instance where it's taken almost 30 days for a package from Hong Kong to arrive at my doorstep (via airmail).

Well, I screwed up somewhere. I registered then sent myself the 25% off coupon. It won't let me use it. I guess because I'm already a registered user. So, I tried signing my wife up to use the 25% off, but I can't even get past the registration part. A little pop up comes up each time that says "your information is wrong" (or something to that effect), but it doesn't tell me what's wrong and erases everything each time. Maybe it notices the address or phone or something is already for a registered user.
How do I get a 25% off couoon that I can use?

Damn... I'm really surpised that this thread has been kinda quiet. :hscratch:
It's perhaps the negativity of the deal and their methods.
1. No one wants to be charged before item ships. (Not even me)
2. Mixed feelings about the time it takes to receive something from them.
3. Asia + dvd's = Bootleg / I know what many are you saying
( THEY ARE NOT BOOTLEGS )
4. The coupon is not working for many and we can't post it here -confused-
-ohbfrank- So where is the deal if you can't use a coupon!?
The deal seems decent but I don't really like much for reasons above.

I think it falls into the category of the uninitiated into the world of non-region 1 dvd's, which I can understand. Those that don't buy Non-R1 or visit the Int'l DVD Forum, don't realize that many of the members within this thread are the "experts" in international dvd's and retailers...Bill and Candyrocket being two of them.
These Superbits are studio released by Sony for the Korean market. The retailer in this thread is a legitimate retailer that many of us within this thread have bought from many times before...just like DDD here in the states.
Though it's hard for me to understand why a bilingual cover makes a difference, other than for trading in movies to a retailer...it's your money, so all reasons are legit.
I encourage everyone here to buy a code free dvd player (they can be had for $50) and enjoy the world of non-region 1 studio releases. There are some terrific films from all markets that will never make it to the US theaters or dvd.
Also, many of the Japanese releases are superior in sound and picture to their region 1 counterparts ("Hero" being a good example).
Do you have to proceed with caution? Sure, just like with some US retailers. I have bought over 70 non-region 1 DVD's in the last year and never had a bad experience from the retailer or quality of the DVD (all studio releases). Just like in the US, you cultivate a list of retailers that you enjoy doing business with and offer fair and sometimes great prices. Visit the Int'l Forum and see what we are talking about. Here is a taste of what you maybe missing:
“What people have ordered” Thread. I love this thread for generating ideas of titles that I didn’t know about:
This thread in the end all be all of the Int’l dvd data base at DVDtalk. Bill started it and maintains the data base with others member contributing to make sure it’s current:
Great news and review sites with a Japanese/R2 focus:

I kept getting that message when I was trying to enter an account under my wife's name. I think it was because the address was a duplicate (I already had an account). All 3 discs in the Black Hawk Down set will play in region 1 players. I asked this earlier in the year before I ordered it. I don't have a region-free player and they definitely work for me. There was a 2-disc Superbit from KoreanDVDs, Spider-Man I think, where the 2nd disc did not work in region 1 players.
The BHD set also has a 4th disc, a CD of the movie soundtrack. It is an excellent addition to the set.

I received mine today, and there was an extra disc in the package. It didn't have a case or anything. It was just wrapped by itself in bubble wrap. It's got a picture of a guy on it with a gun in his hand (as if he's handing it towards the camera). It also has some korean writing on it. I probably won't get a chance to check any of these out until this weekend and was wondering if anyone knew what this was.

Bumping UP. This is really a great Deal for Superbits and it's still going on.
Received my order of 5 superbits earlier this week. That was less than 2 weeks for shipping. Extremely pleased so I figured what the heck and ordered another 5. No 25% coupon this time but had some mileage discount around $4 from my previous order that made shipping only about $6 for the new order of 5 DVDs. Anyway ordered
Tears of the Sun
Gattaca
Snatch
From Here to Eternity
Legends of the Fall
Final Cost= $73.46 or about 14.69 each. Not as good as my previous order of 5 for $60 but still a great deal IMO.
