Burning a dvd from a cable box recorder via computer?
Friday my cable company is installing a dual tuner HD cable box recorder. (hoping it records in HD, I forgot to ask) There is no charge for the first three months as they requested I review the thing. (I have been working on them for months. I think they made this offer to get me to stop my persistant asking.)
I may want to burn a few programs onto dvd so my plan is to run a cable to my computer (I have a second large hard drive) then burn it from there. How would I make this connection into my pc and is there a recommended (preferably free) software program allowing me to edit commercials before burning?
I know little about dvdr's. Is one type better than another for what I want to do?

My HD DVR is from Cox Cable. It is also a dual tuner and it does record HD. Our boxes currently have a USB and firewire port. However, these are not yet enabled according to Cox. Supposedly, in the future, the USB connection will allow one to connect an additional hard drive to the box and then later connect it to a computer.

Not sure whose box they use but I have a Magnavox at the present time. I'll have to find out if there is a USB and if its enabled.
Thanks

my dvr records in hd and it has a dvi port on the back. I was thinking of asking this same question, as I haven't gotten around to trying it. If I connect my cpu and the dvr through the dvi cable, what kind of software will I need to burn tv shows to dvd?
