Here's my collection. There are very few in my list I would not advise buying.

I really liked the Guardian Legend. It's kind of like the orignal zelda, but sci-fi and instead of dungeons, it has shooter levels.

Metal Gear 2 is pretty bad, I'd skip it.

A NES collection means nothing without Mega Man 2.

You beat me to it! Anytime anyone says "What's an NES game I should get?", it's my swore to duty to inform them about Guardian Legend.

Well since that's already been brought up, I'll suggest Star Tropics and Star Tropics II: Zoda's Revenge, especially the first one. If you've never played the PC version, I'd also suggest Maniac Mansion. Also, if you like Iron Sword, the original Wizards and Warriors is worth playing too.

Where did you get your top loading nes? I've wanted one for awhile but they are always crazy expensive on ebay.

Tengen was also known as Atari, you may have heard of them.

Here's what they released self published:
http://www.digitalcrap.net/nes/gamel...license=Tengen

They later developed games that were published by MindScape:
http://www.digitalcrap.net/nes/gamel...ense=Mindscape

Most of the arcade ports under MindScapre label were developed by Tengen.

The Lolo series, can't go wrong with any of the three.. Simply amazing puzzle-solving games that I spend entirely too much time on when I was younger

I wasn't aware of the Tengen/Mindscape connection. It's odd because I feel that most of the Mindscape games suck, but the Tengen games are some of my favorites.

I knew that they both released Indiana Jones: temple of Doom... is it the same game? I own the Mindscape version.

I would strongly advise against doing this. I tried to do this and got burned out. You're much better off to try to make a list of 25-40 "essential" games and just get them.

It's fun to have 200 NES games, but when you never play them, it's silly. I have found that I play the ones I have more often when I don't have a bunch of crappy games.

Looking at your list, I would say you have 95% of the games worth owning listed.

But, as always, to each his own.

Don't forget to Ghost N Goblins. Also if you pick up the zapper light gun, check out a game called Freedom Force.

Contra Force is pretty horrible. I love Contra games, but that one was unplayable for me.

I found one in a pawn shop for $10 not too long ago. And not to rub it in, but it is sooo awesome.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I got my top loader at a local used video store (which is where I plan to get the games). It was $50. I will say though the key with any NES is still clean games. The struggle to get a game work isn't as bad as the front loader (I've never gotten a blinking screen which was frequent on the front loader), but the games still need to be relatively clean to work. As for the people who mentioned the tengen tetris does that have a 2 player battle option like the gameboy tetris games?

Tengen Tetris does have 2 player split screen battle.

You are right, clean games is the key. These things are 15-20 years old and most have been sitting in used shops collecting dust and dirt. I use a Q-Tip and Isopropyl on all my new arrivals before I put them into my NES. Out of over 200 I've found 1 that was totally dead, and 1 that was works half the time.

You will NEVER get the blinking screen on the top-loader because the blinking screen is caused by the lockout chip which is not present in the top-loader. If you've got a bad or dirty game all you'll get is a static blank screen.

[/end NES geekiness]

Rad Racer

I played the hell out of that game

Check Game Crazie if you have one, they run some great deals on NES games.

Is Game Crazie the Hollywood Video chain? I did not think they would have NES games.

"Skate or Die" Man that is one cool game, and an essential title for your collection.

I see you have ducktales on there. Might I suggest Chip and Dales rescue rangers.

Very fun platform game.

Also Cobra Triangle - pretty good boat action game
Snake Rattle and Roll - 3D snake game, kind of like marble madness, This one is lots of fun and has two player simultaneous madness. Impossible to beat though.

AHHH Pixy, some great memories in this thread, it sucked that I sold most of my games, but I do still have my sealed copies of River City Ransom, Baseball Stars 2, and Rc Pro am 2.

I would suggest getting three friends and a mulitap and pick up rc pro am 2 for four player gaming heaven.

PIXY have you seen the wireless NES and SNES controllers? I wonder how well they work

Yeah.. I learned my lesson once selling off mt NES/SNES games. Never again! Of course, back then I didn't have a large collection, mostly games I had when I was growing up.. still, it hurt.

I have seen those controllers, the ones from Messiah? I made a thread about them before they were released. I've been meaning to pick up a set for months now but can't decide on NES or SNES for my test buy. I've heard nothing but good things about them.

Yeah the $50 set comes with 2 controllers and a lunch box. I don't care about the box, but since 1 controller is $30 I'd have to get the set. The only thing I see is that the receivers are wired a bit.. I much prefer the Wavebird and Logitech style receiver.

Just wondering...

what game do you guys think had the best graphics on the NES? Was there ever one that pushed that little processor to it's limits?
