Hmm, one difference is that on DVDEmpire they're not eligible for free shipping.

No free shipping, no STL, no A9 ..... happy I jumped on the Amazon sale, since I went with a few blind buys and appreciated the additional discounts.

Well, there's free UPS shipping if you buy over $150 worth of stuff... and there are also coupons available (in the sticky thread at the top of the forum). So, for some people, this can be just as good as Amazon's earlier deal.
In answer to what's going on w/Fox sets? I'm just guessing here, but I think the clue is that these are all older, Season 1 sets. They probably figure that everyone who wanted these already bought them. So now it's time to tempt others into buying into the series.
It's like crack dealers. Give the initial product for dirt-cheap, get people hooked, and then sell them future seasons at full price. :)

Yeah, there are a couple I would like to get, but at the time of the Amazon sale, the finances weren't available. Free shipping and STL would have been nice. Even w/o the STL, it's hard to pay for shipping.

The strategy worked on me. I got Roswell Season 1 for $13.49 at Amazon. After watching it, I bought Season 2 at Target for $35.:)

The free shipping and coupons do work together and you get 2 day shipping for free (once the items are in stock.-when you submit order they are all oos) When you first select the box sets it says not eligible for free shipping but I think that is the promo on site for free shipping when you buy 3 dvds not for free shipping when you spend over $150.

i wonder if buying one of the higher priced boxsets, and returing it after xmas is a good idea. Best Buy and places like that, usualy let you return things after the holliday w/o recept

my guess is that they won't have one.
As bboisvert said, Fox's strategy is that those who already wanted these first season sets already have purchased them. They're hoping that those who buy the first season of the show will like it and buy the subsequent seasons at the higher regular prices. I think that it's a very good strategy.
