No real suprises here. Those are real low numbers, however. I know there were no big films out this weekend but those numbers still look low.

I"m surprised that the Incredibles has slowed down quite a bit. Looks like it may not hit the $300 million mark.

It only opened in LA and NY this weekend. It's due to open up wider on 12/17/04.

Absolutely. IMO maybe the best opening weekend in the past 2 months. Closer & House of Flying Daggers.

Closer did excellent considering how few theaters it opened up in. The movie is decent but Owen & Portman make it a must see.

I'm guessing that Christmas should treat it fairly nicely, it might be able to lift above on the strength of time off from school for the little ones

Agree! Number 4 on the list, yet opened in under 500 screens? That's pretty damn good!

Apparently, America is still getting dumber Nice to see National Treasure about to break 100. Didn't get a chance to catch House of Flying Daggers this weekend, and with some Blade Trinity and Ocean's Twelve coming up, i'm not sure i can get around to it

re: Americans getting dumber...wish the studio exec. would give us a better chance. Of course National Treasure gets the crown..it's playing a much wider audience. I saw both Closer and Finding Neverland this past weekend...theatres packed. People will see good stuff if given the chance.

National Treasure is showing quite some legs there. Are there no movies of this type to topple NT in the next few weeks? It seems there is relatively little competition for this film. Everything else is either kiddie flicks or drama. Is this to be an action-less Christmas??

Ocean's Twelve will definitely knock off NT next week. I think that Blade Trinity will as well.

Closer has had terrible word of mouth. As much as I'm a fan of Portman, I may just wait on this one because of big horse face.

Yeah, is that because a majority of the critics happen to like the film?

Like Dabaomb said, Blade and Ocean's Twelve should topple it easily. Blade is pretty action packed

I don't let "word of mouth" decide on what movies I see, (if anything the movies most people hate, I'm more likely to like & want to see) but from everything I read critics have absolutely loved this movie. I'm with you on horse face, I can't stand her & I hate Jude Law even more, but Owen really owns this movie, even though he isn't in it that much, & Portman can get me to see almost anything.

No, it's because many people I talked to disliked it. Word of mouth doesn't always have to be critics. Thanks for jumping to an assuming. Perhaps next time you might want to not do that. kthxbye.

I jumped to the right assumption, that is what I thought you meant & again, I don't let what other people say decide my own tastes, if you do that is cool, but it's shame, your missing one of the best performances of the year & Natalie shaking her butt on the big-screen. My friends generally have the same taste I do, but I still like to make up my own mind, I guess I'm just weird like that.

Besides, there are so few movies I can take my girlfriend to see & this was one of them.

Pretty bad drops for The Incredibles & Alexander. Decent for the other holdovers considering the Holiday weekend last week. National Treasure snags it's third #1 weekend.

I'm glad to see National Treasure hanging on. Every once in awhile there's a movie the critics hate that's just plain fun like this one (IMO).

Even happier to see Closer doing so well on only 476 screens. By far the highest average per theater (in the top 17).

So what was with the utter lack of releases this week? One semi-major movie in very limited release (Closer). I can't ever remember a weekend being so baren of new releases. What's the deal? You can't tell me people were fearful of Alexander or something...

Glad to see Polar Express still moving along, that one should pass 100 million this week. Overall, really kind of a slow weekend. I know after Thanksgiving weekend typically isn't that big (at least last year we got The Last Samurai after the holiday), but I was hoping for something I want to go see. Oh well, the next four weeks hold more than enough movies I want to see.
