The promotion includes games, dvds, accessories, and anything in the store that is used. I was able to nab mint copies of Spider Man 2, Blues Brothers, and Elf for $25 and change. Check out your local store's selection if you're going in to do their trade in 3 used dvds promotion.

Wow, someone already turned in a copy of Spiderman 2? Nice find.

There's one Gamestop in my area that is notorious for having really early previously viewed new releases. They had about three copies of Spidey 2. I think they had Harry Potter two days after it was released. Though the used price is usually high, this deal makes it much more reasonable. As a bonus, you get all the original packaging and inserts unlike Blocksbuster.

They're either stolen copies or new copies that ppl bought so they could burn a copy and then sold (although to me it would seem that it would be cheaper to rent it then burn it).

I posted about my DVD finds at Gamestop in another thread, but to recapitulate here:

Clerks X $9.99
The Wire Season 1 $29.99
Spider-Man 67 Classic Collection $29.99
Lawrence of Arabia 2-disc $9.99
Talk to Her $6.99

That's a smoking hot price for The Wire (MSRP $99.99), especially since I picked up two $29.99 used games along with it and used my GMR discount card for an additional 10% off, for a pre-tax total of $54 for the three items (so $18 for The Wire if apportioned equally).

These are standard prices assuming you can find the discs you're looking for. I never have much luck in NYC but score big every time I visit my parents in pudunkville.

They tend to have mostly mainstream stuff. Good prices on various Star Trek sets as I recall but since I've seen a total of 7 minutes of all Star Trek-related entertainment in my life, I couldn't tell you the exact deals.

Make sure you're not buying all the $3.88 walmart dvd's that others are turning in for the 3 used for a new release deal. How ironic would that be? ;)

Took a load of old dvd's to Gamestop. They only has three upcoming new releases I wanted - I-Robot, Anchorman and Troy so I traded in nine crappy ones for them as pre-orders. They took all with no problem.

Noticed while I was there more people are turning in box sets. A couple of seasons of Buffy were on the counter but they were spoken for. Another set for Profiler was in the rack.

Also noted, other than trading three used for one new one, they don't give you much store credit, only about three bucks each for singles.

Walked down the mall to FYE and got $6.00 each on the four I had left with me (on account) so that will pay for Bourne next week and give me five bucks back. They even took the $5 deposit out of the store credit I just received.

Both stores had much nicer people than BB! :)

Couldn't they possibly be reviewer copies as well? I had a friend who worked at the Strand, which is a used book store in NYC, and they used to get *tons* of review copies of new books in before or on release date.

But I don't know if it's the same with DVDs. I do assume most are stolen from somewhere and then sold to Gamestop.
