Folks, either B&N is running their usual 5-off-50 codes at 2X value or their servers are screwed up; whatever the reason, BNOFFER netted me $10 off a $50 Barnes & Noble order I just placed yesterday, and (in true B&N fashion) all 9 of my books are scheduled to arrive today.
*HOW THE DISCOUNT APPEARS is much the same as "Raytrade's" original THANKU6 code (now expired) — namely, you won't see the discount as you are checking out; but it (magically) appears on your emailed receipt and shipping notice(s).
Eg: A 50.34 order — which becomes 45.34 w/BNOFFER during checkout — should arrive in your email as 40.34
I don't know how long B&N will double the value of this code. If you were sitting on the fence on some B&N items, I would urge you to place your BNOFFER order now.
Wait wait, there's more: If you are a DiscoverCard holder, be certain to keep the small Return to ShopCenter bar on top of your page at all times during Checkout for . . .
(Minimum)7¼% Additional Discover Cashback (http://www2.discovercard.com/shopcenter/bandn.shtml)
A dramatized biography of Lady Ada Lovelace (Tilda Swinton) daughter of Romantic poet Lord Byron, and mathematics genius who developed what became the world's first computer language 100 years before computers. Ada's story is told through Emmy (Francesca Faridany), a contemporary computer scientist who is researching artificial life. By using her won genetic code. Emmy is able to collapse time and link her world directly to Ada's. Realizing how parallel their lives are, she embarks on the task of "saving" Ada as the lines between the past and present, virtual reality and reality blur in the process.

Oh well, $50.98 shipped is still a good price (especially when I will get the $10 rebate).
you could always cancel the first order and re-order it with the $10 off $50 code. If it's only one use per account, just create another account with another e-mail address. $5 is still $5.
Or you could cancel both orders and use the $20 off $200 code.

Dabaomb is absolutely right. But even if they did ship it to you RockStrongo, you can immediately return anything ordered from BarnesandNoble.com to your local Barnes & Noble for a full refund. Just bring in your packing slip. I've done this numerous times when a bargain book was, er, previously well loved shall we say heh heh.

Think I will pass on the coupons unless I can find something at a decent price to purchase. I thought the $10 off $50 coupon would be ideal to use for the the upcoming Criterion releases of King of Kings and M, but B&N wants $39.98 and $35.98 before the coupon discount. Looks like I will stick with my Amazon STL orders on those titles.

They do charge sales tax in a few states, but I don't know how they avoid charging in others. Even though there are a lot of B&N stores in my state (California) they don't charge sales tax on online orders. I'm not complaining since I live in a state that is totally irresponsible with their spending of tax dollars. If you feel guilty send a little extra money to your state when you pay your taxes next year.

Especially on that particular edition. And Mike, LOTR is my absolute favorite Christmas read. But another very close second is THE SILMARILLION (http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?isbn=0395939461) — Tolkien's riveting story of the First Age, the ancient drama to which characters in "The Lord of the Rings" look back. I couldn't put THE SILMARILLION down, it was that good. I highly recommend it as the companion book to LOTR.

Confirmed not stackable 10% off — better than a 5-OFF-50 if
a) the 2X coupon value promo expires, and
b) your purchase is more than $50.
Eg. a $64.90 purchase would net you a $6.49 discount rather than the (capped) $5.00:
Start your Barnes & Noble purchase with the AAA/BARNES & NOBLE (B-TO-B, meaning Business-to-Business) LINK HERE (http://www.aaa.com/BarnesandNoble) — enter your Zip Code — be transported over to the b-to-b AAA affiliate link w/Barnes & Noble. Look for either the AAA logo -or- the small bar at the top of the page saying Return to AAA and keep (one) at the top of your screen during checkout at all times. EXPIRES 12/12/2004

Yesterday, I used the AAA deal to order the Ultimate Matrix DVD set (without bust), but when it was apparent that it wasn't going to allow for stacking, I exited from that browser window, and opened up a new one and went to the B&N website, and my cart was intact, but no AAA 10% discount in effect, so then I applied the BNNINST coupon code, selected free shipping, and the total was $50.98.
Then I get my email receipt from B&N and it showed that the $5 coupon got deducted again, so my final total was also $45.98. Yay!

In reality though, they could legitimately come back and recharge that $5 if they catch on, right? I did place the order while it said $50.98 so that's what I excepted.

They could charge the $5 back, but I doubt they want to a) sift through orders to see which ones to charge back and b) deal with the hundreds of extra phone calls doing so would generate.
Also, what state are you in? I think someone posted earlier about only a few states charing tax since the company is different than Barnes and Noble. Just wondering.

I was also too late for the double coupon (cc will be charged $50.98), so i think i'll cancel my order with B&N and make it a definite point to make it out of town to Best Buy so i can use a 20%off Madden coupon and get it for $42.39.
