Shenmue 3?

From the Dreamcast days, I fell in love with Shenmue 1 and 2, and was pleased to play the XBox version of volume two.

Any word on a third Shenmue ever coming out? Or is it a dead franchise, never to be revived (that's OK as long as they keep coming out with Grand Theft Auto titles)?

I was also looking forward to a third Shenmue game, but I wouldn't hold your breath. Sales for the second game wasn't too strong and it's been, what, two years since the release of Shenmue II and no word? They were flawed games to be sure, but I had a lot of fun with them and would like to know how the story ends. It would also be nice to see a Shenmue game built from the ground up with the XBOX in mind, not the Dreamcast. Imagine what that world would look like....

LMAO. Thanks for that.

OK, so it wasn't the greatest accomplishment in video games, and toy collecting was a tedious idea ... but it had a great story, great music.

There will always be too many unanswered questions ... like whether Ryo loses his virginity to the girl in the white sweater.

Both games were great imo.....Shenmue online??? Whatever....

Should they decide to come out with a true sequel continuing the story from the last part, I would purchase it in a heartbeat. Shenmue fans can only hope they have their eyes set on the newer systems to be released in the future. I realize these were not the best selling games but I cannot believe they did that bad in sales. Guess time will tell on this one......

You will enjoy Shenmue II....I picked my copy up brand new from ebgames a long time ago when they had it listed for $9.99. This game is worth $50.00!!! Any online petitions for Shenmue III?

They can keep their online crap......

Shenmue II is my fave game on the Xbox. I rarely played w/ my Dreamcast so I never got to play the original. It's too bad we'll most likely not see an ending to this series. Best we can hope for is a CG movie for Shenmue III (hinted at in an old interview w/ the creator).

Even though the original Shenmue sold more than a million copies worldwide, it wasn't as successful as Sega had hoped. The sequel cost more than $10 million to produce (not sure if it still is, but it was the most expensive game made at the time) and sold fewer copies than the original. It did very poorly on the Xbox (around 100,000 sold) due to it being available on Dreamcast a year prior in Japan and Europe. Everybody who wanted Shenmue II imported it long before it hit the Xbox. These are the most probable reasons why we won't be seeing Shenmue III.

I would sacrifice three fingers for Shenmue 3.

Unfortunatley, it looks as though I'll keep my fingers in this life.

Why is it that, every time I read this strip, I picture those lines being read by George Takei?

The first Shenmue has to be one of my favorite games ever! There are so may cool things in that game ill remember forever. Part 2 was just as great in my opinion. I realy enjoyed it but thought the last chapter was a little too much, a little too slow. Heres hoping for a part 3!

Man, I still remember being holed up in my room a few winters ago when I first played through both games on the Dreamcast. The second one had just been released at this time, so I thankfully didn't have to wait long in between chapters. Although I doubt a third will ever be released, at least we were lucky enough to have the first two.
