Miramax [Kitano] Zatoichi vs others
Hi all,
I was just checking up here to see what people had posted about the North American release of Zatoichi, and find... not much!
I read here
http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/DVDCom...oichi-2003.htm
about the changes that Miramax made to the colour composition of the film. I'm usually against such changes, but I have to admit that the Miramix edition's stills shown in that review look "better" than the others although that's at least in part due to how much sharper it looks.
The review also mentions that the Miramax picture "suffers badly from edge enhancements." What is meant by this?
Generally, now that it's actually out, what do people think about it?

I have the Miramax DVD and my friend has the R2 Japanese release.
The Miramax version has BETTER color and sharper video. I believe both releases are in 5.1. On the other hand, the R2 version has a really neat menu look. But, otherwise, the Miramax version is the watchable version.

Edge enhancement happens usually when there are parallel lines or really fine detail and gives a noticable shimmer to them. I have a component video hookup and I only noticed edge enhancement in one particular shot of a rice field. But, I don't think it "suffers badly" from it.
